Default Reckless Motorcycle Fairing issue!

Hello Everyone,

I recently had a mounting bolt break off on my Reckless Motorcycle fairing.

I had to have it tapped out.

I then found the fairing had been rubbing against the front of the nacelle. It had left a deep mark

I remounted it and tried several ways to use their mounting spacer and washers.

It is in contact with the nacelle. See images.

The brackets clear the fuel tank and the fairing does not hit the headlight nor the passing lights.

I have contacted Reckless Motorcycles and their tech email.

I think if they lengthen the brackets to 3/4 of an inch, it should clear and give space w high freeway miles.

Please hold on purchasing. I cannot recommend this to anyone at this time.

Thank you for your time,
Lboy06.

was it rubbing the Nacelle due to the bolt breaking? those folks are pretty stand up - im sure they`ll take care of it, I have a reckless & No problems other than one of the screws above the accessory lamp came out that holds the two fiberglass parts together.

Id definitely suggest checking & tightening the fasteners on the reckless Fairings from time to time. Hope it gets taken care of for you.

Default Reckless Motorcycle's poor response.

Hello LXT,

The rubbing of the nacelle was not due to the bolt breaking.

The pictures above show it rubbing with all four bolts on. I could not slide a business card between the nacelle and fairing. There is contact on both sides.

I have tried many different configurations of washers, spacers and the grommets with continued contact to nacelle and fairing.

This is a picture of the marring to the nacelle.

"those folks are pretty stand up - im sure they`ll take care of it"

I received an email from Alex Sassenberg from Reckless Motorcycle. He emailed, "I will suggest getting some rubber at home depot to put in those areas. Could you please send me a picture of the broken mounting bolts".

I did not photograph the broken bolt and took the bike to the shop. I replaced all the bolts for fear of another one breaking.

I was disappointed with their reply. My wife spent over $900+ for a painted fairing (outside and inside) to try and shove Home Depot rubber into an area that I could not slide a business card through. That is not stand up.

I recommended a lengthened bracket of 3/4 inch to prevent contact with clearance for highway speeds and clearance of the passing/turn lights and headlight. I informed Alex that his answer was unacceptable.

I am very disappointed.

Thank you for your time,
Lboy06.

Have just recently been considering a Reckless faring for my 2020 Heritage and this issue definitely has me concerned. As a matter of fact was going to call them tomorrow with a couple of questions.
Not sure I’m as excited about getting one as before.
****!

Hello Lefty jm,

I would not recommend them.

They seem to lack good communication and customer service. They obviously do not stand behind their product.

My friend purchased engine guards from a foreign company.

The guards did not fit. He proceeded to email and ship items back.

The company returned his money and explained that they were currently remachining their guards and would like to email him when they were ready.

He purchased from another company and the original company sent him a new catalog with the newer guards. That is the way to do business.

Please note, the fairing is a copy of 1996-2013 batwing fairing. I found out by purchasing aftermarket windshield and figured it out the hard way.

I took the fairing apart.

I took the bracket off and sent the images to some local fabrication shops.

I then sent an attempt at a template. This is an attempt.

This pushes the fairing out by 3/4 inch away from the nacelle.

I will continue to post the progress.

Thank you for your time,
Lboy06.

What year is your bike? I know when I bought my fairing for my 15 heritage - I called before purchase cause the newest model year of fitment was 16 or 17 & was for a fatboy if i remember? I know they had a "No Modification" clause on some of the fairings. Its sad to hear this & I hope they take care of you.

Hello LXT,

I own a 2019 FLHCS.

When my wife ordered the fairing, RM emailed a questionnaire. It was very specific. I answered it completely and submitted the filled out questionnaire.

I have not received any further emails from Reckless Motorcycle. They did not take care of me at all. They do not understand customer service.

The new brackets should be done this week. I will continue to post.

Thank you for your time,
Lboy06.

In discussing with Reckless they actually told me accessories that I would add shall be 2013 onward, like windshield or tri-pouch or else ...

I considered Memphis Shades but the mounting hardware is worse than stock HD and Tsukayu ... but they are a bit more expensive and the windshields are specific.

The brackets are done!

Here is an image of the overlap.

I had them fabricated at American Laser Fabrication Inc. They are less than 1.2 miles from Feuling Parts.

The new brackets gave the fairing room and do not contact the nacelle. It still has space for the passing lights.

You can see the space, it is about one finger on both sides.

I just returned from a ride and it is solid.

I replaced the torx screws with a Button Head Socket Cap Screw, Alloy Steel, Chrome Plated, Coarse Thread, 5/32" Hex Key, 1/4-20 x 1" rated at 150,000 PSI.

I will continue to post progress.

All in all the new brackets were about $88.00 a piece with tax included, about 10 days to make. My contact was Ryan at American Laser Fabrication Inc..

No thanks to Reckless. No response, no nothing. Customer service should be priority for any manufacturer.

If I had to do it over, I would have purchased the Klock Werks Billboard Flare windshield.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your time,
Lboy06.

Interesting I’ve read older threads where guys said the fairing was too high and too far out and reworked the brackets to bring them closer .
