When I was younger, I used the S-100 and it seemed to me everything was like new clean for a very long time, but at 62 and my current bikes are 8 and 40 years old, soap and water and wipe'em down works and $aves.
Your picture above looks like oil from the lower rocker box assembly is wicking out and vaporizing on the smooth surface. I would spray a little Lucas Mist and wipe that off with a microfiber towel and call it done. .
To be clear, this looks normal after the top end was disassembled maybe to have a new set of cams installed. Just assembly lube working out of the motor the 1st time it was hot.
there was .... spot on with that... it looked to be leaking as I had what looked to be oil on the oil cooler .... Harley picked her up and I just got her back and they said they found nothing... I’ll just ride it and keep an eye open. You were spot on tho I got upgraded oil pump ... cam case ... lifters...rods... cam... and vented dipstick along with exhaust and tune. Guess I have to be somewhat understanding and just clean her up
On these black powder coated components I use Maguire scratch polish and this brings them to their former glory. If I want to clean my engine really good I go to car wash spray with WATER ONLY from far away (kinda like rain) till I cool it down completely and then soap spray also from far away and water from far away again, wax spray and rinse. Dry it and ride home. works for me but be careful and let all chemicals out of the hose before you spray anything on hot engine as it can create mess otherwise. I always make sure I cool this baby 100%. Stay away from electrical components, bearings, brakes or tank or oil opening while using power washer I am always at least 6 feet away in full blast. Good luck
Pig Spit is a miracle. That S100 stuff works well too. You're on the right track because once those cooling fins on your engine start to get a little oxidation, it's nearly impossible to get it off.
Like an oil subject, I'll chime in you let me kno wtf you think.
Meguires car wash, 5 gl bucket with that huge soft bristle brush. Mist it off, blow dry it, towel to take the rest off.
I usually take my time after the wash, 2-3 days, maybe two weeks to polish it? BS
