Default Heritage touring/luggage

I traded my 2017 Ultra in on a 2021 Heritage, I wanted something lighter and lower because I'm getting older.

I still like to do 2 up touring and wonder how much luggage I can get on the Harley luggage rack. I wonder if these two bags would fit on the rack and work well?

I realize the saddlebags aren't very big and need to get creative packing all of our stuff.

Any suggestions on how to maximize the luggage capacity would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

I have the HD backrest/luggage rack on my wifes Heritage and she loads it up pretty good in spite of the labeled 10 pound capacity. The luggage you posted should work fine.

I moved from a Road Glide to the 2021 Heritage for the same reason. I have 2 T-Bags, good quality bags but I think they stopped making them. One is large and can sit on the passenger seat. I can strap it to the sissy bar and the saddlebag guards. The other is smaller with quite a few pockets. It sits on the 2 up luggage rack and has a strap that secures it to the sissy bar. I recently purchased a tour pack from Viking bags. I haven't had a chance to use it, but my first impressions are that it is well made and that it can hold quite a bit of stuff, just not as much as the road glide or electraglide.
Good luck.

I think they changed it bit recently. But what I have is very similar to what is now the HD 'Onyx Touring Bag' I've been using it on my Wide Glide with standard size sissy bar/pad. I have a luggage rack also, so for extra stability, I bungee the hell out of it.

I had a 2021 Heritage rental a few months ago with a standard sissy bar/pad - slightly lower than my WG. It had the black luggage rack also. That fit on just fine and, in fact, I used fewer bungee cords to keep it tight.

I like my luggage because it has a telescoping handle, wheels, rain cover. It's reflective so it's safe if you use it on the luggage rack - on the back. Lots of space on the inside with pockets on the outside to get to certain things you need without digging inside as you travel. I also have an old school luggage set with the small roll bag on top. Picked it up cheap as a season "leftover" at a rally. I would add that on for a long trip or if I need to carry large items such as alcohol

Bottom line, it is pricey but the bonus is that there are hooks everywhere to secure and the zippers & pulls are solid. You take it off and pull it behind easily.

Good luck.
I looked at the Harley and Viking trunks, the issue (I think) is that I cannot get my FXRG jacket into a saddlebag so if I take it off, there is really no place to put it. With the bags, I hope to be able to wrap it around, or on top and strap it down... Same thing for my gals jacket.

Find a small soft cloth bag that can easily stow away to hold your jackets. Then secure with the bungee net thing. I use that to take along my full helmet if I wear my half but expect rain. It's also good for excessive purchases in a pinch LOL

My solution was a bit different because I ride solo, but what I did was buy the detachable solo tour pack rack as it's more robust than the regular luggage rack, and easily detachable when I'm not touring. I don't use the tour pack, but I place a large bag on the rack and secure it with a bungee net.

They also make the tour pack mount for two-up riding. Nobody said you HAVE to use it with the tour pack.

Not specific to any model of bike, but check out ROK straps as an alternative to bungee cords. Nowhere near as much springiness as bungee cords so load is much more stable. And then there's the good old bungee cargo net, seen in the same snip here. Handy for jackets that come off during the ride. Many are likely well aware of these items, thought I'd share for those who may not be....

This would be my solution as well. I wasn't even aware that there was a solo version. It shows up under the heritage P&As (part number 50300176) but not the Sportglide (which I have). Instead that lists the dual seat version (part number 50300192). I would assume if I switch to a solo seat, I would be able to use the solo version.

Speaking of seats, tell me more about your tractor seat. It looks good. Is it comfortable? Any concerns about the under seat area being open to the elements? My concern would be water and dirt ingress playing havoc with the electricals that run through there. Having said that a fair amount of dirt seems to be thrown up there from the rear tyre anyway.

Cheers,

M

I, too, use Rok Straps. Anyone want to buy all the old bungee cords I have accumulated?
