That was kind of my point. First comes sound. For me, I don't care how much power I have, my bike has to sound good. Then I can go from there.
I got pretty lucky using the s&s 475 cam with my riding style. Learning what gear and throttle response at low speeds has been the key for me.
I was thinking about the s&s 465 cam. I like an aggressive lope. But recently I've been reading and researching the Star 30-30 cam, but it's $100 more then the s&s.
I'm thinking now about taking the speedometer apart and change the LED's to different colors like they've done on camao's and other cars. I miss the various sportster speedometer. The Dekota's look nice, but are expensive.
I checked out their page before. My concern is will they show codes if the check engine light comes on?
Probably need to contact them if someone here doesnt have one installed. No mention of it in the instruction manual I found online. The Dakota one I just got shows them via the setup menu/diagnostics. Dakota also makes an analog/digital version that you set to customized colors but its close to the same price range as the Digital that also shows the codes. That said read you are now on a budget now (congrats on retiring! Hope I can in 15/20 years) so not wanting to spend money on the Dakota ones is totally understandable.
What's wrong with my 18 Fatboy 114. I read about owners having trouble with brakes, compensator, lean angles, hard to take corners, excessive vibrations, tire wear, uncomfortable and the biggest one, tongue dip. I'm sure that I missed a few.
I haven't experienced any of these, so I'm thinking that there's something wrong with my bike.
When I put on the V&H Big Radius pipes, i was told that those pipes are not good for torque.
When I twist my throttle I go and I go fast, so much so that I needed a back rest. When I put pressure on my brake pedal it slows or stops depending on how my pressure is applied.
As I was looking at cams, i read that I should stay away from the S&S 475 cam because it doesn't like the Big Radius pipes and that I was going to lose low end torque. It did run a little rough and sounded sick under 2,000 rpm, but a few auto tune sessions cleared that up.
And guess what, When I twist my throttle I go and I go fast, so much so that I still need the back rest. I've ridden without it and the M8 with this set up wants to push me backwards off my seat.
My 114 M8 sounds like a beast wanting to be set free. Have I had it dyno'd yet, nope. I've thought about it. But why? So that somebody can point to a chart and say: See, look, you have a torque dip right here. But I don't feel it, well it's here, look at the chart. Then they're likely to say that it's because of the Big Radius pipes and if I changed them, I wouldn't get that little blip on the chart. Why?

So what's wrong with my bike?
It's 04:44 and I'm just ranting.
A lot of those are true you just just do not have the experience on a variety of bikes or have not done the research. if you have never ridden a big bore higher compression bike without radius pipes how do you know, If you never ridden a stage 2 bike without radius pipes how do you know. the S&S 475 cam is a good cam but its not a complete bolt in. This cam like cubes and compression and it runs better, and the dip you wont feel on a softail. I have a Breakout with S&S 128 and I can tell you as many bikes as I have ridden and the research I have done you think you have low end torque because you don"t know you don"t know about the other side. if you had a 2:1 D&D with your setup or any exhaust with a baffle and some backpressure then you would see how the radius pipes are hurting you. If you road a stage 3 or 4 with the same 475 cam then you would see its true potential. And it sounding like a beast has nothing to do how it handles compared to others. that is why people like those radius for the im loud look at me but someone who used the right equipment combo is faster and may still have a dip due to the short exhaust on softails but its not felt with how light they are. I have a dip on my dyno graph and i dont feel a thing. Its a rocket. And if you think you need a backrest just because you experience something doesnt mean its confirmed your right.. My car is fast because i like it and feel good and im right your wrong doesnt hold ground. You definitely havent experienced any of the ladder i said above.
