It's a side stand . If you can't figure it out on your own without an internet tutorial, you shouldn't be riding. There, I said it.

hanging around? I posted 1 reply, is there a chastity lock on this thread monitored by you? The guy posted and I quote ( am I missing something) meaning should I be aware. You come back with you can go now! If my bike falls over I will ask you for a video on how to put my kick stand down 😂 oh but wait you are still trying to figure it out. I will come back!

The problem is the stand comes into contact with the ground well before it even reaches the 90deg position "IF" the rider remains seated with their full body weight on the bike which in turn keeps the bikes suspension compressed which in turn keeps the bikes frame lower to the ground where if they simply relieved the bikes suspension of their body weight the frame would rise upwards giving the stand enough ground clearance to freely swing forward into its locked position.
Ah, there's the difference, and I missed it in your first post. I never try to put my stand down while sitting. My legs are too long for that to happen. I'm on my feet with my weight on my right foot and the bike leaned slightly right. Only way I can comfortably (and reliably), get my stand down.

all i can add is on my 18fatboy i frigging hate this stand. its not like any other harley ive seen or owned. sometimes when getting off of the bike it feels like its going to roll forward and fall over. and other times its standing almost straight up. go figure. it feels like the stand is sinking into the ground. it gets me every damn time. hard to get used to this feeling. no other harley i have owned has done this.

You've obviously never been on a Harley-Davidson rally. See it all the time, every day, after every stop. Really.

Two things will come of this,

#1 They will will never call it a Jiffy stand again may god be praised

#2 They will learn the proper use and trust of a system that's been doing a great job for a 100 plus years without all the this hand wringing ninny bullshit about it.

Just my 2 cents....
I'm confused, why not call it what it is? The Jiffy Stand is a Harley-Davidson invention and is not a "kick-stand"
It's called a jiffy stand and I refuse to compromise on this point - RevZilla

Call it whatever you want, to me it's fingernails across a blackboard when I hear it used.

Tells me volumes about a person's riding history or lack of it.

Well as much as I don't like the name, and use the term kickstand out of long habit, it is called a jiffy stand in the 2018 Parts Manual...

FRAME AND JIFFY STAND (1 OF 2)
FRAME AND JIFFY STAND (2 OF 2)
