Default Fried another voltage regulator

So I've got a Lowrider ST I bought used thru a private seller. The bike died yesterday. I got it home and swapped in a new voltage regulator from my friend's bike and rode around the neighborhood and saw 14.4v. All is well until I rode it a few miles and fried the voltage regulator. It wouldn't show past 12.5v anymore. Harley won't warranty it because the previous owner added Thrashin Supply bars. I checked the stator by doing an resistance and continuity test. Everything checked out okay. Checked the AC voltage while revving the bike and showed about 44 volts. Checked the voltage regulator output wire to the battery and didn't find any short. Battery terminals are all tight and snug. Not sure what to check next. Hoping to not light another $200 on fire by frying another voltage regulator. Thanks in advance.

One day everything is fine and the next day, out of the blue, voltage regulators started frying? Is there more to the story?

lowrider ST...should be a 22 as the 23 is barely out.

i would start with inspecting the install of the bars, if possible the tank may have been moved or lifted and a short could be anywhere. also may not be noticed at idle or sitting, maybe bad connections that are vibrating or shorting

1. Year of your motorcycle.
2. Year & model of your "friends" motorcycle.
3. Other modifications to motorcycle.
4. Voltage Regulator wires shorting out somewhere.
5. Check all battery and voltage regulator grounds for corrosion etc.
6. Battery get load tested.
7. Guess you will be buying your friend a new voltage regulator along with a new one for yourself, so $400?

Well I did drop in a 22XE cam the other day and flashed it with a tune from fuel moto using a power vision 4.. but I don't think that would fry a voltage regulator

Exactly, that's what I said. But the Harley guy said they didn't do the install so there's no way they can ensure the electrical was done right. "Electrical can be finicky" is his quote.

1 2022 Lowrider ST
2. 2022 Street Bob 114 all stock
3. Thrashin bars would done by the previous owner. I added the MoonsMC taillight and wiring harness like 2 months ago. I've also installed an SPC exhaust, only thing there is I unplugged and replugged the O2 sensors. Rest is saddlemen seat, flo pegs, etc.
7. Yeah, I owe him a new voltage regulator and will need to get myself one when I figure what's causing the issue

Are you sure volt reg is not fine and stator bad?
Historically it is was about 20 volts AC per 1k rpm, I usually rev up to 80 volts or more for testing. I don't know what your bike puts out. I would look that up.
