Default Clutch Switch

I put Harley's Edge Cut Grips on my 18 sport glide shortly after I bought it in 2018. Since then I've never been able to start it in gear with clutch lever pulled in.

I'm thinking the grip is larger than the original and because of this the clutch lever hits the grip before the small tab pushes in the switch far enough to allow starting it. In fact, the tab just barley makes contact with the switch when the lever is pulled in 100 percent. I checked the switch by placing the end of a screwdriver between the switch and the tab and the bike starts fine in gear.

Curious if anyone else has had this problem and if so did they find a solution?

On the rare occasion I need to restart the bike while in traffic it would be nice not to have to find neutral first.

Thanks

Yes, the Oberon adjustable levers have the same problem, but that's a lever issue not a grip one.
My solution, I planned on gluing / epoxying a delrin spacer to the lever tab so it engages the switch, then realised it hasn't bothered me in the four years since I fitted the levers so I reckon I'll just leave it be, clutch switches are overrated.

I have Nostalgic grips on my Heritage, they are bulging in their central part and it's why it doesn't work, the switch by itself works, I Checked, so you can put a small shim on the part of the lever which makes contact with some double-sided tape....

Small thing piece of 3m weather strip on the lever takes care of it. Not too thick as the switch will activate before clutch is fully released.

This may not be your situation but I well tell you my experience.I have a 2018 Heritage and had the same issue of not being able to start the bike in gear.

Turned out it was a bad clutch switch.
Had it replaced and has been good since.

No modifications to the bike. Stock except for engine gaurds and high way pegs, sissy bar and luggage rack.

Again might no be your issue.

Heres a thing to check. You brake lights. They work the same way, but the only way youll know is when someone rear ends you cause your brake lights didnt work.....
