Default So I tried a new windshield on my Low Rider ST

So this is picture heavy. I purchased a Clearview Large windscreen for my FXLRST in hopes of resolving some turbulence issues at speeds over 60... I did a simple test at speed and found it nearly the same if not better at some speeds enough to where I removed the protective film. It was after removing the film that I started to have my problem which is hard to show in pictures hence I used a lot of pictures through the shield.

Distortion... which probably made worse because I chose the light gray tint... but basically on the outer curves when there are lines on the road the seem magnified by the shield which means its likely going in the closet.

First picture is comparing the Harley Large shield to the Clearview Large Shield and the rest of the pictures are trying to show distortion...

compared to large Harley shield to Clearview Large shield

If your looking through the shield like a car it's too tall. You should be looking just over the top edge, so that slight head movement down protects you from rain etc. I see the distortion but only at the area of lip that directs air up & over your head. One other thing, are you wearing prescription glasses with a no line bifocal and curved lenses? If so, that doesn't help matters.

Interesting. I've always liked looking through a screen rather than over. I'll go the garage and change 3 screens immediately since you said so.

I have tried the HD 10", the Clearview Medium in dark, and now the Klockworks 10" with varying degrees of success.
- HD 10". Fit and finish the best of all 3. A bit better than stock but barely. The angle has the top of the shield to close to the rider which has the wind hitting me square in the face. Distortion is minimal.
- CV Medium. I got the gen 2 in dark. Nice looking shield. Looks the best on the bike. Fit and finish the worst of all 3. To think and does not line up well on the lower sides. The medium moved the wind to the top of my visor. Distortion not too bad as I still look over it.
- Klockwerks 10". Fit and finish great. Looks good. The distortion is worse than the CV but the wind management a bit better. Still hits me at the top of the visor causing buffeting.
- Both the curved CV and KW have distortion for sure.

I wear a Shoei GT Air II full face helmet. Both the CV and KW do a decent job of buffeting reduction up to 60-65 mph. After that both have buffeting. I'm 5'8" with 28" inseam. I would gladly deal with distortion over buffeting. As a LONG time KTM Adventure rider, I have been chasing buffeting forever. One thin I've learned (or maybe not) is you either need to go small or none, or very tall on windscreens. Everything in-between is a compromise at best.

I will keep the KW on for around town and short rides at freeway speeds. I'm going to order a CV Large for longer freeway trips. I seem to have a weirdly long torso with stubby legs so I should be able to see over the CV large based on dimensions.

Here is me with a CV Medium

I actually look over the shield while riding, the issue is that the distortion the shield causes is very noticeable when lane markings are present so the transition from my line of sight over the shield to seeing them in the shield can be jarring.

One thing to note, a camera does not fully show the issue because it only has one input and one reason the distortion is more noticeable to people is what we process input from both eyes. If I close one eye the distortion at times is not as evident.

So I tried to get some yellow lines and take from different angles, the middle picture is likely most representative of my looking over the shield and the recurve at the top and curve along the outer edges both distort

I am just trying to provide a reference to people, I am going to swap back to the Harley large shield and take similar photos just to make it straight in my head

My Klockwerks has the same distortion even more so than the Clearview. I will say it took several rides to get used to it to the point that it does not bother me as much as when I first installed it.

Same thing with my progressive glasses. The first few weeks I was getting dizzy not don't even notice they are progressive.

Good luck . . .

My Harley Davidson 10" windshield appears to me to be quite satisfactory. It does a great job of wind deflection, and is also very good optically. I have no intention of switching.

Hello. Checking in to see what you decided. I'm 6' 3" with a tall torso and was looking at either the large or extra large shield like you bought and came across your post. Did you keep it or trade to something else?

Thanks.
