I dealt with that on my 18 heritage 107. I felt it was vapor lock related
when I got my tune from Fuelmoto on my PV4 it went away completely. never had it happen since.
The automatic compression release (ACR) seems to correspond with my problem. I'm looking into that further.
I'll let you know how I make out. Unless there are other things to check out.
Thanks again,
Steve
Yeah, but what I was getting at is starting in gear, especially if the bike is lurching, puts more stress on the battery. Thats why I asked for battery make and CCA.

I'll need to pull the battery in any case but I got it at Harley and asked for the correct battery so I would assume it's the correct one... but who knows. When I pull it, I'll let you know.

Vapor lock is typically on a hot engine, this happens hot or cold and it's intermittent.
Thanks everyone for all the ideas... it's giving me places to look.

it happened hot or cold with me as well. Vapor lock was just an idea. But I really think it was factory tune related.
since the flash, I dont even think about the hard starts anymore. I was actually shocked the flash had got rid of the issue.
I always start the bike in neutral but I just tried it in gear and the bike did lurch forward just a bit. What does that mean? The bike has 17k on it and the clutch has never been adjusted so I would think if anything it's loose and not tight.
Your thoughts?
What I think is you need to maintain your bike
17k and you have not adjusted clutch???? Adjust clutch and try again. May or may not help. I start in neutral.
Also what brand battery?
Curious, if you put charger on high does it start better?
The automatic compression release is interesting, my first bike with them. If you give bike quick start and then try again any better? I've done this to decompress bikes when hot.

It means your clutch is dragging a bit. Thats very common with Harley wet clutches, even when properly adjusted, especially when cold starting.
