However:
The transmission fluid fill is the most inaccessible thing I've ever seen

Sorry. Thats just a bad design. not so much the motor and transmission, but packing everything around it so tightly that you can't access it
I expected all the hassle that came with swapping the cam and all that goes with that,
but if I had to do it every 5000 miles, I'd be really pissed off
you shouldn't have to work so hard just to change your transmission oil

as a sidenote, service manual specifically says to add 28 ounces
When checking the dipstick afterwards (takes about 37 hours to screw it in and pull it back out) the level just touches the bottom of the X
According to the service manual, that means you have to add some
If you have to add some after adding the exact amount called for in the service manual, then 28 ounces ain't enough. Why not say 29 or 30 if that's where you're gonna end up?
How many ounces additional does it take to bring you from the bottom of the X to the middle of the X?
it would've hoped the service manual would've been more specific on this topic...

Coincidentally, I just did my 20K service and I completely agree with the OP on this. Getting the dip stick cap to thread was so frustrating.

Yep. I dont have small hands and doing that with just my thumb tip and index finger tip, which was all I could reach it with, was maddening.
