Got the Saddlemen seat put on. Just sitting on it in the garage its a little underwhelming. Initially it feels like the stock seat. Wife also doesnt like how short the passenger area is, and how it slopes down toward the back of the bike. I sat on the pillion and I agree, it feels funny. The built in backrest support is very prominent and presses into the hamstring slightly. And with the backrest on, the 150# wife has just enough room to sit. This is not the extended seat either.

Hopefully this changes with time.
Don't put to much into how it feels initially. You need to put a few hours on it before you'll really know how it feels. My 14 Ultra Classic seat felt nice and comfy just sitting on it, but after about 2hrs on the road I couldn't sit on it any longer. I literally had to pull over to get off it before we made it home. I've had Mustang on my 98 Valk for close to 20 yrs and while it's always been firm / hard (it's probably worn out) I've never been uncomfortable on it so I ended up buying the Mustang Super Touring Deluxe seat package for the UC and the wife and I have no complaints. Hopefully you'll find the same comfort with the Saddlemen after you get some seat time on it.
Yeah tell me about it. $900 for a seat it should feel like a sofa
I thought the same thing about the Saddlemen Road Sofa I bought for my Road Glide a couple years back. $650 and it felt like a brick with some vinyl stretched over it. Everyone said to give it 1k miles to break in, but honestly there was simply no way I was going to make it that far; it still sucked after 500+ miles. My wife hated it too.
Hopefully you have better results though! So many people love the Saddlemen touring seats, so they must be doing something right.
Now, the tuck and roll step up on the other hand... my favorite seat I've ever owned and it's not even close. I'm 6'1 and went with the extended reach version and it's made a world of difference in comfort for my legs.
There’s 99% failure rate changing my wife’s mind on anything. First impression is everything with her. She said, again, only based on sitting in garage, “I like the other seat better.” That would be the stock seat she’s talking about.
It’s a beautiful seat. That’s about it based on first impression.
Oh, the tongue is very sloppy also. And when I sit in the seat, the front of the seat lifts up enough for someone off to the side to see underneath the seat. I wonder if it will rattle when I get to ride it.
Again, with this being a “journal” of sorts, I write these things down so I can reference them later. In my 2017 thread, I wrote how poor of an initial impression I had with the Legend shocks. Ended up loving them down the line.

Dang, I got one on order coming still. Disappointing that the tongue on the seat doesnt fit seamlessly it should being a saddleman. I sometimes find that in waiting to upgrade things u til I have the money set aside I get used to the stock so much that the stock actually seems better at some point.
