has anyone swapped only the speakers without adding or changing anything else? and did it make any difference?
Mixed opinions...
My story: I changed my previous bike sound system completely. First, changed the radio for an Aquatic one, stock speakers. No difference. Then changed the speakers. Sound quality improved. Real difference was when I changed the whole system to rockford fosgate: Speakers, amplifier.
Speakers just will give the output of the equipment you have. Dont think personally you will feel a significant difference.
Just my 0.02
I up graded the amp and speakers to stage 2 cost me over a grand and I installed it my self... But when I changed my wind shield to the new klock werks I really could hear my tune sooooo much better. I was wondering if I had the windshield first would i have stilled upgraded to the stage 2 audio ??? Btw this is on a streetglide.
Are you still using you stock windshield????

i have the klockwerks windshield and it made a massive difference to the stock audio setup. i can hear it at 70 mph but i wish it was louder and clearer. I'm contemplating upgrading just the speakers to see how it sounds but i am definitely going to be adding an amp later.
Well that sounds like a good plan. Because if you do the amp first you must do the speakers.
Speakers first you can wait on the amp..When you do the amp don't forget you have to do the download. Anyway good luck with it and let us know how it is with just speakers I'm sure a lot of people are curious how it sounds....
I have a 2017 Ultra which I bought new. One of the first things I noticed was that the stock speakers were a joke considering the price of the bike. At anything above around town riding speeds the speakers were useless. My kids bought me a front and rear set of Hog Tunes plug and play speakers for Christmas and the improvement was huge. I'm sure this is nowhere near as good as doing a full system with an amp, etc., but it made the sound system usable and pretty decent at highway speeds.
In my opinion the Hog Tunes speakers (or something similar) should be standard equipment on new bikes.
I had planned to add an amp / EQ to the system, but after I switched to wearing a full face helmet I found it was easier to route the sound to the helmet speakers rather than dump more money into audio system.
I do have some high frequency hearing loss and began using hearing aids (when I'm not wearing my helmet) about a year ago, so younger riders with better hearing may have a different opinion.
I have changed my windshield from the stock Ultra Limited Low one, to a short 7 inch aerodynamic one, but I didn't notice that that helped or hindered the sound.
