Default Warranty and Service

I am hoping to close on my deal for a 2024 Street Glide by the end of this week.
What can I expect the Extended Warranty and Service plans to cost?

Thanks...

Short answer, whatever you’re willing to pay.

It is a negotiated price. HD will probably start around $3000 for an additional 5 years but you shouldn’t pay more than $2000 IMHO.

Paris HD in Paris, TX is currently giving a 5-year HD ESP with each new bike purchase.

There are many aftermarket options as well. @Jim Palmer - MotorcycleAgent.com at www.motorcycleagent.com has multiple options as well, and they cost MUCH less than what you’d pay at HD.

They'll cost more than what they're worth IMO.

I think the extended warranty on my street bob back in 2014 was around $1500. $2-3000 seems like would be a going rate these days.

I never needed my extended warranty. The one warranty issue I had was within the first month or two of owning the bike and it had 1200mi on it.

I never used to buy the extended warranties. Until I started looking at the complexity of all the computer monitors on new vehicles. Motorcycles, trucks, RV, and cars are needlessly using computers to control too many things. We will be junking vehicles because of bad computer modules rather than mechanical issues.

So because of the computer monitors, I would get the extended warranty to cover that. I would also look at the tire/wheel package as the low profile tires are subject to damage on real roads. I personally see 2-3 bikes a year with rim damage.

Shop around. My credit union uses IWS. I have not used it, but my friends have. I have IWS on my RAM, Harley and the Dodge vehicles. ANd my warranty via IWS is 7 years and 100k miles.

and Tire & Wheel is an add on to the ESP item...I had zero problems on my 2020 RGS over 75,000 miles, so didn't need an ESP .. the overall platform aside from the new OS and IFCU is the long term question and if the head unit needed to be replaced it wouldn't be cheap..I'm rolling the dice on mine..I just have an emergency fund set aside in CDs and high interest Savings account in case of unexpected expenses .. its value might depend if you ride 5000 miles a year or 15000 .. you also need to pay attention to modifications and adhering to documented maintenance schedule items or they may deny / void some warranty claims ... at the end of the day

I negotiated my ESP to $1400, but I think that was four years. I'll have to find the details. This was on a new 2021 Ultra Limited. It really depends on the dealer. I paid $800 for tire&wheel, and they steamrolled me into an "appearance protection" package for an additional $700. I should have pushed back harder on that one.

Just make sure you understand what is in the extended warranty.

The HD one that is for the initial 2 years covers pretty much everything. The extended warranty I had looked like it was from HD so it didn't click at the time but was in fact some kind of insurance company and some items were excluded.

I also think you need to take into consideration how much you are going to ride it. If you put over 6K miles a year on it, it makes more sense than someone who only rides 1K miles. I had no problem adding it to mine. I saw the digital display and the amount of electronics they are stuffing into the bikes these days and it was a no brainier for me. Everyone is different and everyone has their price points. If you go in with the thought process that the price is negotiable, negotiate it to where it makes sense to you and if you can't get them there, walk away from it. Whether the price is good or not is completely subjective and probably not overly important. The warranty (at least at our dealership) is backed by HD - so you know they will take care of you - you're not getting a **** warranty. What is peace of mind worth to you? What can you pay for out of pocket if you have an issue? Whether or not it's a deal should be close to the last of your concerns.

Are they still offering the Extended Service plan that covers all of your routine service through a certain Mileage?

If I cannot break it in the OEM 2 year warranty period, it is not going to break. I put at least 20K miles on the 2 year warranty and never had an issue except for factory recalls that had to be installed/uploaded.

Take the money you would spend for the warranty and set it aside, if something breaks after the warranty period, use that money to fix it and I bet you will be dollars ahead.

Proper maintenance and care of your motorcycle is the most important part.
