I've not found any advantage to aftermarket brake pads. In addition, the ABS is tested and calibrated with OEM pads.

Have you used these pads ?? ... and I could be wrong. But ABS systems aren't calibrated for specific "OEM" pads or pads in general. Can you point me to something that could educate me ?

"ABS systems are not calibrated for specific OEM pads
; instead, the vehicle's control unit is pre-programmed with an internal calibration based on the original equipment (OE) friction material's characteristics. When aftermarket pads with different friction properties are installed, this can cause issues like jerky performance, over-corrections, or other stability problems. Some modern systems may offer a dynamic calibration mode, which allows the ECU to adjust internal parameters based on wheel speed and brake pressure readings during a test drive to compensate for changes in friction" But this does indicate that it may not be a good idea to use aftermarket pads.... or at least pay attention to the behavior once aftermarket IS used.

And ...

"Yes, the 2024 Harley-Davidson ABS systems, particularly those equipped with the Reflex Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS) suite, have a form of dynamic calibration known as Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System (C-ABS). [[url=https://h-dmediakit.com/eu/news-articles/harley-davidson%C2%AE-rdrs-safety-enhancements-designed-to-boost-motorcycle-rider-confidence.html]1, 2]
Here are the key details of the dynamic capabilities:
  • Cornering Enhanced ABS (C-ABS): This advanced system takes into account the motorcycle's lean angle (measured by an Inertial Measurement Unit, or IMU) when cornering. It dynamically tailors the brake pressure to the available traction at the tire contact patch, helping the rider maintain control and follow their intended path while braking in a turn. Traditional ABS is primarily designed for straight-line braking.
  • Dynamic Linking: Models with RDRS also feature Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking (C-ELB). This system dynamically adjusts the proportion of braking force between the front and rear wheels based on speed and lean angle, optimizing brake balance in various situations.
  • Riding Modes: On applicable models (like the CVO Road Glide ST and others with RDRS), the ABS and other safety features are integrated into selectable ride modes (e.g., Road, Sport, Rain, Custom). These modes electronically adjust the level of safety technology intervention and performance characteristics to suit different riding conditions, effectively providing different dynamic calibrations on the fly.
In short, the RDRS systems on many 2024 Harley-Davidson models are dynamic and use real-time sensor data (like lean angle and wheel speed) to optimize braking performance beyond standard, static ABS systems.
Note that RDRS is standard on CVO, Touring, Police, and Trike models and optional on some other models. Some base models may only have the standard (straight-line) ABS system. [[url=https://www.jalopnik.com/1976531/how-does-rdrs-work-harley-davidson/]7, 8]

As a side note, Im not sure the ABS system doesnt have problems. I have been trying to get them to fix a pulsating brake(s). They did the the TSB work but not much of a difference. Had some personal issues that forced me to put this issue aside for a bit, but I got to get back on it before Im out of the manny warranty.

Would aftermarket tires also make a difference in the ABS calculations as much as the brake pads do?

Only if the level of road grip was different than the stock tires by a significant amount. For example, if you installed racing slicks and rode on a smooth clean race track, the cornering ABS and traction control would likely activate even though the tires were not up to their grip limit.

If you do mostly regular riding and not very aggressive mountain riding and the OEM pads stop fine, I would stick to stock. I use double sintered pads all around on my trike only because I pull a trailer. I also ride fairly aggressively in the mountains, yes even on a trike I ride very aggressively. My wife at 70 years old loves it. I was pushing sports cars on the tail of the dragon… one guy in a BMW came to me and told me I was pushing him pretty hard , he said I didn’t know a trike could do that, I do now, lol. The brake pads with the linked system did very good.
