Well I got mine done. Although i could not get the plate thing to work the first time, i decided to go the black bolt route.
I used a new dash, switch from jp, a bunch of wire and wire loom. I also found black bolts and nuts at the local hardware store.
Using a 1-7/8 hole saw i cut into the dash
I then had to disassemble the switch, the black part is 1-7/8 not the chrome top
I then assembled the switch back through the dash hole. using the black bolts to hold it in place. I built a wire harness to go from the switch to the main harness.
Wonder if the wide glide dash would be a straight swap. Anyone know? Not sure if the tanks are different. Might make it a bit easier in terms of mounting the switch... JMO
Sometimes I hate this forum. First, it made me sell my sporty and get a street bob. Then, one mod after another. Now, I have to decide whether to use a low rider console to add a tach -- or to keep the street bob one and use the extra space for a garage door opener or an ignition switch. Aaaargh.
The pics on this thread are awesome. Thanks to the folks who post those great step-by-steps. It really makes it easier for those of us who follow in your footsteps.
I don't have an answer for the FXWG dash question. What I did do is go back to my posts in this thread and fix a dead link to my diagram for the switch with 6 wire contact points. it is this pic:
id be pretty interested to know if any one thinks a wg dash would be a straight swap too. any one know if the tanks are different?

Not the same tanks and it is not a straight swap. The speedos are also a different size.
