definatley the best mod ive done on the sb,mounted mine using the plate method
I looked at your install. Great job.
Just a caution to everyone to allow a way for rain and other water to escape the bottom of your plate attachment or the result could be this!
I just took my dash off to add an ignition switch and do a few other electrical mods. Now I also have this to deal with. Not sure how or why this happened. I just know that adding a plate that will not drain properly would have the same or worse effects.

oh damn!....that is NOT cool....in fact, I've been debating about moving my switch back to the neck... either that, or doing it the right way with the screaming eagle dash and accompanying switch.
any ideas on how to remedy it? ....is it rotted through?

I recently learned for myself what others have posted many times in the past warning about power washers.
Over the past year, I have remove a majority of the parts on my bike for mods. I have found numerous areas where water had been introduced which I believe would otherwise have been fine had I not used high pressure water.
The most obvious water exposure was when I changed my tank and fenders.
I had surface rust under the top plate on the bare metal of the fuel tank. It had not gotten past the seal so thankfully it did not continue into the tank. I have also found stains and corrosion at the terminal pins on the TSM, fuse sockets on the electrical caddy, and in other electrical connectors. I was lucky not run into issues and failures as a result of this exposure.
Now, I use very little water and only use running water from the hose or a fine mist.
This is just another example where I should have taken the advice of those "who told me so".
cdn-bigfoot, what you found likely is a consequence of the same.
I'm on te edge for doing this mod simply because I hate the ignition on the neck frame, is there a proper writeup on how to wire u the new switch using your old wires from the neck switch and have everything function properly?
Just don't want to F_uck up to bad on this mod. I'm deadly afraid of drilling the whole as well.
