Default Air shocks?

So I have my 02 Night Train torn apart right now to do a 200 conversion and I keep looking at the shocks.

I was looking at buying a second bike, an Ultra Classic, but it was sold before I could look at it. Something with a little better ride for those long rides. I had back surgery last year and dont really feel like wrecking my back again any time soon.

I dont really know what I could do to improve/soften the ride. Would air shocks be worth it?

You can greatly improve the ride with air shocks.

You can adjust air shocks to be softer than stock. I also have a bad back, and since having the Platinum Bleed And Feed system on I can ride for hours without a problem. Some systems only lower or raise the bike and cannot adjust for rebound or pogo effect. You should find a system with height and rebound adjustments. On this site there are a few vendors selling the Platinum air ride shocks. Check out Harley Goodies Floorboard Extensions and Dr. V Twin. Good luck.

Here are the two adjustment controls for infinite range of motion and comfort.

I agree with NEVETTE. There is also the SAS air ride which has the compressor built into the shock so there is no need to run extra wiring except for the switches. This shock also has a damping adjustment to ensure a smooth ride. If you are concerned about adding a compressor elsewhere this is the system for you. This system also has no external air lines at all. Contact me for pricing info via PM. Drew

The SAS has a super small compressor and thier dampening isn't on the fly. Sounds like you need to adjust it on the shock.

"Adjustable dampening: The side of the cylinder piston that is not being presurized will need to draw in air and force it back out when the suspension is working. The Simplified air suspension has a needle valve in the front of the unit that will control the volume and speed in which that air will flow. Tightening the valve will decrease the speed which the air flows, and vise versa. During assembly the valve is pre-set, (tightened and then backed out 1 1/2 times). This air also comes in and out of the remote filter. The SAS is 100% s from debris."

The only 2 that do this are the Platinum and Shotgun. There's a nice feedback aticle about these 2 shocks + the Progressive on a link http://www.scribd.com/doc/13758855/S...art-Conclusion

Yeah does look like you need to adjust it on the shock.

Any idea of what the life span of that compressor is? Even though it never runs long, I'd be concerned about heat buildup with it being enclosed.

Anyone have any idea how hot the external compressors on other systems get when they're running?

I've never seen a SAS in person but i would wonder how long a "micro-compressor" would last since it has to work dbl time to lift the bike. As said above....What would be the life span of the tiny compressor?

Not to mention the price tag is well over other systems. IMO...just not worth it. If paying the hefty tag and it doesn't adjust dampning on the fly. With a tiny "micro-compressor".

We may never know...just not to many guys runnen this "SAS" set-up.

The was a guy named Pabtom maxxx i think that had this setup but have not seen him around in a while. I just put a call in to them and they are already closed. I'll call tomorrow again nd see what they have to day. I have never heard of a compressor going out, but I am sure it has happened.

I couldn't agree more... I have had the Platinum Air ride system on my Softail for almost 5 years and still love it. No problems what so ever.
