Replace it with aftermarket would be my suggestion, especially if you've had it fixed once already.

EDIT: You still don't really know if it's the amp unless you pull the fairing when it's happening to look for the protect light and test the inputs/outputs of the amp.

Am I to assume that this is a radio problem? Any help would be appreciated.
If you're still running the stock Harmon Kardon radio, I would suggest that is your problem. I have the SoundStream 4.520D on my bike and had the exact same problem. Pulled the radio and sent it to Iron Cross Audio. Had them fix it and do a bunch of other stuff while it was there. I now have no problems what so ever with my set up.

I concur that the head unit is the issue. If you turn it off and right back on and sound resumes, you have an input issue to the amp which is an output issue on head unit.

Default Possible gain issue

I would suggest trying to adjust your gain on the amp that is cutting out. You replaced your speakers and the sensitivity of the speakers you installed may be more than the old ones and thus overdriving your amp a bit. If you overdrive the amp it might cut out for protection. Try taking the fairing cover off and powering it up and turning the volume up on the headunit loud as you ride maybe even a bit louder. Watch the light on your amp and try dialing it back just a little bit on the gain adjustment. See if this doesn't solve your problem. Just a suggestion, as I have had this issue before, however, I have not had your particular amp or speakers, so this is just a suggestion. Would at least try this before pulling the head unit and replacing it without trying this, unless you want another headunit anyway. Hope this helps you.

Even though the problem goes away when powering down the headunit and turning back on, it can still be the amp gain. When you power off the headunit, chances are you are powering down the amp also, if it has remote turn on feature. So, you are also repowering your amp and this would cause the problem to reset in the amp. However, as some of the other members suggest, it could be your radio. Trying my suggestion could eliminate the amp as being overdriven for certain.

Good point, well taken, and it probably is the radio then.

LOL. . . If it's a stocker . . . More often than not. . . The radio is the problem. I've not seen the sound stream fail yet and I know at least 50 guys who have them including me.

Yeah I don't have much experience with the HK radios. My old screamin eagle is a 2005 and I know it is a terrible radio.
