I bought a windshield mounted stereo unit and plan to run it with a set of lower fairing speakers and a small amp. What is the best way to get signal from an ipod to both the windshield unit (Harley boom) and the lower fairings?
I imagine you could do something like this: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=668
6' Male to (2) female 3.5mm cable, plugging the handlebar wire into one female and then get
Unless the amp for the faring speakers also uses a 3.5mm wire. Then you'd just need the splitter cable.
OR- http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=7116 is a headphone splitter with in line volume control (no attesting to its quality or longevity here) that could give you a bit of fader control to balance the volume output of the two systems. Maybe find a good setting for both dials and cover them in some shrink wrap to keep from moving.

Reason: Still finding horrible autocorrect words. Swype fail.

Figured I would update this thread. So, what I am going to do is a Sound stream PNR.520D. I am putting Infinity DB651s (6.5) in the fairing lowers (using the Matazu pods) and DB 351s (3.5) in the Harley boom stereo that goes to on my windshield (I am taking it apart and running the better speakers vs the junk that is in there...). I am removing the Harley amp and am going to use the Soundstream for both sets of speakers since it has separate gain controls for front and rears channels. I also ordered a RCA receiver bluetooth dongle that I am gonna pair with my iphone. I am hoping for loud and clear...I can hear the windshield unit pretty well going down the highway so this should be a ton better. I am hoping to be able to wear earplugs to kill the wind (tinnitus in both ears from an IED going off 30 feet from me and years driving trucks...) and still hear music. High expectations I know..I'll update as I get it installed this week...
