Pulled the trigger, Bit the bullit, Audio Upgrade beginning
Well, After reading a lot of threads in this forum, I ordered the Bt 2180 and 7p1 for my batwing. With the intention of adding a better HU sometime in the future. Donna at Bt was very nice to do business with. Got a fair price on the package deal with adapter rings and wire harness, Plus HDF member discount. The only thing I'm wondering about is these "pods" I've read so much about. I seem to recall seeing a photo of speakers mounted to the Engine Guard without Lowers. Can't find it again. Is there such a thing? Or do I need to BOLO for some lowers? I'm sure I'll be very happy with the first step, Adding a HU and "pods" would be the final step, If /when I think I really need/want them.
Congrats....pulling triggers BT triggers is always a good one.
Pods. I have friends that have put those on road kings and heritages but the largest ones I've seen are 5.25 speakers and don't really aim too well on the engine guard. I just grabbed a set of lowers aftermarket lowers on eBay for 200.00 and man they are a 9/10 in quality and finish. Not perfect....but well worth the price for a vivid black bike.
My Titan II's and 4180 get's here tmw. So review will be up after some weekend riding.
If I were you, I'd add a HU. See how you like it and go from there.
A new HU would be a great addition to your sound system. Make sure to get a HU with 4V or higher... Sony, Kenwood and Alpine makes some pretty good units.
Yea, I'm lookig through the HD catalog, Nothing in there I'd want. I see the 3.5" handlebar mounted, Not for me. So, If I find as set of lowers they'll need to be vented, The HD Boom Fairing Lower Speaker Kit only houses 5.25" speakers and it don' look like you can buy just the mount/install hardware seperately. Anyways I'm getting ahead of myself, Plenty of time to figure out how to get another pair of speakers after a HU.
OK so I'm still trying to figure out how/where to mount 2 additional speakers, Lowers are not gonna work for me as I have Footboard extensions, 1" up-1"out. Extended brake pedal and cruising pegs mounted on guard. Do not want SB Lids.I'm looking at my dash and I'm wondering if anyone has tried removing the Speedometer and Tach and installing 3.5" speakers in the holes. I've seen the tweeters that can replace useless Air temp and B+ gauges. I would have to find maybe a digital Speedo/Tach /Odo to maybe use in the console insert area? Thoughts/Opinions welcome.

I have the same board extensions as you with cruising legs and the whole shebang and none of it interferes with my lowers.

Thanks ,Thats good to know, Even extended Brake Pedal? I'm going to look deeper into my "Wall of Sound" idea. I could have the BT 7.1's a pair of good 3.5's and a pair of tweeters all in the batwing and keep the look of my SG. If I can find suitable instrument replacements for about the same cost as a set of lowers.

Smokey - If you install good speakers up front you won't need tweeters.
I've got the stock head unit (for now) 4180 amp 7.1's in the fairing & 6.5's in the lowers. All Biketronics, pricey but only by a small amount when you look @ all the other options, Buy once suffer once be happy, Lifetime warranty awesome customer service hard to go wrong. I read over & over the next best thing when upgrading the system after the fairing was to do the lowers. Absolutely amazing.
Cheers Bob
I'm just going to enjoy the BT 2180 and 7.1s and save up for a quality HU, Instead of trying to cram 4 or 6 speakers into the batwing. That was getting crazy expensive, My next/last Brilliant idea was to get a Road King fuel tank with gauges in the console to open up the 3.5" holes in the fairing. not cost effective but different/unique. If anyone with too much time and money on their hands wants to try it, I'd like to see how it works out lol. meanwhile, patiently waiting for that Big Brown Truck ....
