I've been searching high and low through old posts, but I can't really find an answer and I'm sure someone on here can help.
I currently have an Elf 2-channel amp that I installed about 3 years ago with Polk DB651 speakers in the fairing.
I want to add speakers to the lowers, so I've been looking at several 4 channel amps that you guys have recommended and I believe I have it narrowed down to the Soundstream amp that seems to be highly recommended here. Now the question:
My Polks impedance are 2.7 ohms. I wanted to get something different in the lowers since I don't want to mess with hiding the cross overs in the lowers. I'm thinking about the Infinity Kappa 62.11 which are 2 ohms. Can I put the 2.7 ohm impedance on one channel and the 2 ohm impedance on the other channel, or is mixing impedance a bad idea?
short answer: yes you can.
all depends on the effectivity of the speakers how the sound will "position".
2 ohm speakers will put out more watts than 2.7, which in its turn will put out more than 4 ohm.
when putting infinitys in the lowers and the polks in the fairing, I can "guarantee" the infinitys will "shine" way better. DB651's FYI are NOT build for the power of the SS amp IMO (which version? 4.520 or 4.1000?). if you got the money, rip the DB's out and put the infinity's there as well, you will not regret it.
Gann, my friend, gave me a set of DBs to test, etc and they ended up in my sons car. Fine there with Pioneer deck powering them. not so on a bike IMO.
how you can adjust where the power goes is simple... just reduce the gain on the lowers (or not LOL).
A word of advice regarding Kappa's in your lowers. The stock Kappa grills will not work in the lowers. There's a ring that gets mounted under the speaker that has some tabs on it. Those tabs engage slots in the grills, so no screws are required to hold the grills on. The problem is that the ring is too large to fit in the speaker recess in the lowers. I tried cutting the grills down without success, and ended up using the grills from my previous Polk MM speakers but others will work as well.
I was going to go with the 4.1000 and based on what I'm reading, they will be up in the classifieds section in the very near future with the amp...lol
It was a great setup for just 2 speakers, but it's time to upgrade.
Thanks everyone for your help!
do not even bother... try to sell them locally via craigslist or similar (they are worth perhaps 20-30 bucks; add the shipping and you will get no responses... sorry to tell you).
or put them in your car... usually better than stock.

The speakers are worth $20 or the amp is worth $20? The amp is an Elf E2125XN.
If that amp is the same as the J&M 250 (125X2), I've bought two used over the years and paid $100 shipped for each. Just to give you an idea of what the going price might be.
