Default Jbl gto 638 ??????

Just trying to get some info on jbl's gto 638 speakers. It's a 6.5 inch 2ohm 3 way speaker. Wondering if anyone has had any luck with these? I am giving up on the Polk mm651's. I Have gone through three sets and I'm just not gonna do it again. Looking at the infinity Kappas but these Jbl's caught my eye. I know everyone says the polks sound the best, but I am willing to sacrifice a little sound quality for reliability at this point. Waisted enough time and money on the Polks. Polk did not stand behind there warrantee when I purchased through Amazon. I'm done with that failure of a product and will not ever purchase from Polk again. I am running the RF pbr 300x2 with Alpine HU. These JBL's can be had for around $60! Just wondering how they will hold up or if I should just get the Kappa's?

I went through 2 pair of the GTO628 in one riding season. Just couldn't stand up to the pressure. My vote is for the Kappas.

Between those two speakers. . . You want the Kappa's.

Definitely leaning towards the Kappas, I did notice that the JBL 628's are a 2way and the 638's are a 3 way speaker, not that it would make much of a difference. Always been a big fan of JBL audio equipment but since I've gone through 3 sets of polks, I don't want to throw more money away and have to change these out in a few weeks by being the guinny pig. It seems that after researching the Infinity kappas here on HD forums that they are really your best option for reliability and sound quality. Hoping someone else will try the JBL gto 638's, and give a solid review on this product. As for me, kappas have been ordered, hopefully they will be far superior in reliability compared to the Polk mm651's, and even sound as good if not better.

I put these in a buds bike. They have really good clear sound quality....but very little to no bass and you can't really push them as loud as other speakers. In a car (closed environment) they're probably a good choice for the price. On a bike at 75mph there's better out there.

Yessir the only difference between the one I mentioned and the one your looking at is one is 2 way and the other is 3 way. Other than that they're identical as far as power handling capabilities go. They did sound good while they lasted but as Haze pointed out there was absolutely no bass response and they just did not hold up well at all.
I too have always been a fan of JBL but it was upper end stuff. These aren't low end quality but they're not far from it either. I think you'll be pleased with the Kappas and if it makes you feel any better...both the JBL's and Kappas are made by Harman Kardon.
