RS,
If u are not real familiar with this audio stuff and just want it to show up in a box and plug it in, I personally would suggest that you go with the Biketronics amp that meets the needs of your respective sleds. They are damn good "smart" amps meaning the BT engineers have basically made them extremely powerful and stabile via leveraging technology. This small town company does have two old school attributes that stand out like a sore thumb: amazing customer service, and lifetime warranties on their products.

The only catch is that you night have to spend a couple of bucks more than the HT setup to obtain this high quality sound, customer service, and warranty but for me, my BT amp has been a damn good purchase.

In an attempt to keep as close as possible to the HT pricing you mentioned I would without question recommend the following audio foundation:

SGS - BT2180 (comes with everything you need to plug and play with the exception of the speakers. More to follow re speakers). No HD flash is required for this 2 speaker set up.

Ultra - BT4180 with Ultra Breakout Harness (everything needed is in the box ) no flash required.

As for speakers, the BT speakers are damn good and if you purchase them as a complete package, it's a damn good deal so keep that as a core consideration. Again, lifetime warranty which can be priceless.

If you move away from BT speakers you might be able to save some upfront cash by considering some other quality options, so I did want to throw that out there.

I moved away from the BT speakers cause my ears told me to do so as each one of us has different audio expectations, not because BT speaks are not exceptional. My other wheels and toys are all pushing out a certain type of sound so that why I went a different direction.

If you remotely thought Boom was ok and like Hogtunes, you will absolutely be blown away by the BT speakers so don't be swayed by me not using such product.

Take your time and hit the BT site for some research. Browse a bunch of the threads involving the various products, to include some testimonials from recent BT installs.
Call BT and talk to both the sales and tech folks and explain to them what ur current desires, budget limits, music genres, etc are and they will do all they can to assist and provide guidance without pressure. They provide discounts for HDForum folks, Military discounts, and in many cases holiday sales.

Just planting some seeds here, so take the time to process this stuff and the gang here will do all they can to get you and your wife in an exemplary audio situation the first time.

In my case, I put the wrong stuff in my sled the first time, and second time, thus it got real expensive to do it right the third time. Be patient Brotha!!!'

I am a big fan of the Focal speakers. They are not cheap but the sound quality is pretty damn hard to beat. I got a hell of a deal on some Focal KRC 165s for the fairing. Very happy.

A buddy of mine just did the 4180 upgrade on his Ultra and dropped the Focal PC 165 in the fairing and Hertz Millie 165 in his TP Pods. Very High quality damn sound.

He got the amp package for about $550. From that point u can drive the bang for the buck speaker equation anywhere u want. Hell, you could come in just a few bucks higher than the HogTunes system with some proven Kappas in the fairing and Polks /Alpines in the TP Pods or you could load up an some stuff in the BT, Focal, Hertz, ARC tier. That's when this speaker selection "whack a mole" game gets really damn addicting, so caution.

I also was headed down the HogTunes path, but decided to go with BT. Very impressed with all the reviews for their amp and Line Leveler. Glad I read the audio posts (lots of them).
