Trying to help my buddy. He has a RZ-2000D and stock HU. When he rides it shuts down in about 5 to 10 minutes. On the HU display everything is there. Stations, what input. He can change the volume but there is no sound. He goes home rips off the faring. Cranks it for 30 mins. Works fine? If you drop gains to zero is that like taking the amp out of the picture? Any thoughts on how to move forward to find the problem. Thanks.

U check all the connections? And I mean all.
A ground wiggling around on the hwy will make the noise go away randomly and also immediately.

I am 50 miles away. Will get there this weekend. In the mean time I will have him double check the ground as well as any connections he can see. The ground is from the amp straight back to the battery. So I would think if he has a loose connection there. He would have other problems as well and he does not. There is a ground on the outputs between the left and right speakers. One for the front and one for the rear. I thought I read that is optional to hook up so not sure if that is the cause as well. Thanks for the input.
The hookup on the Hi-input speaker connections are what I was talking about. There is a "G" in the center of each output. There is not real reason for that? Read somewhere if you have noise that you should hook that wire to ground.
So he said he left work and sound was there for 5 min. then gone the whole way home. After he got home he took off the faring and it fired up. Put faring back on and it quit again. I told him he has to be pinching something or binding a wire. Interesting.
If you don't find any issues, I would bypass the amp and wire directly from HU to speakers. If problem continues it's the HU.. They are notorious for failing. What year bike?
He took the faring off again. Tucked in the wires removed the poly foam. Than tried a ride and so far it worked. He tends to wash his bike a lot. Wounder if the poly foam was damp and causing a short on speaker contacts? Just a guess. We will see if it returns. His bike is a 2012 Electra Glide Ultra Limited. Thanks for all the feed back.

He took the bike to work today. He works about 40 min from home he got 15 into his ride and it shut down. I just installed a New Kenwood HU so I met him, and gave him my old Stock HU. It is from a 2011. He installed it we will see tomorrow if he has any problems. On the flip side, if it's the amp I have a spare. Just went from the 2000D to 3000D. We shall see. Thanks
