This is moving faster than my comprehension (almost). Glad there are folks like y'all who are in the know and willing to share the knowledge. Many thanks.
I have a question about the Polk MM651s- 100 w continuous at 2.7 ohms? How would I achieve that load? How would that equate to a 4 ohm output? I don't understand this electrical stuff.
What would the next step up in speakers be? Thanks much for all the advice.

you need an amp thats 2 ohm stable, speakers can be higher in impedence (ohms) than the amp, but not the other way around.
for example a 2 ohm amp will run 4 ohm speakers but a 4 ohm amp will not run 2 ohm speakers
lots of very respectable amps mentioned in these forums are 2 ohm stable, so when choosing one, make sure u check the spec sheet or simply ask. any amp your concidering has probly been used by someone here
Those speakers are plenty capable of getting you the sound you are looking for! No need to stress on the resistance of the speakers. I've already done that for you. As hog said as long as the AMP is 2 and 4 ohm compatible you can run two or four ohm speakers. If you want a step up 4 ohm speaker you're getting into the Hertz and focal stuff.
Well, for now I have an iPod and some earbuds. I think I'm on a mission to learn about amps, speakers, impedance, loads...
Teacher, may I go home now? My brain is full. Again, thank you all very much.
lol. just keep browzing the threads here. it will make sense soon enuf. i was in your shoes 6 months ago. worse actually cuz my first speaker purchase was J&M. they are currently collecting dust right along side of a pair of blown hogtune speaks. expensive lesson learned to say the least
