Default Arc Moto @2ohm

So the research I have found indicates that the ARC amp is 150 Watts in 4 Ohm and also in 2 Ohm.
Just seems odd to me.
Does anyone know how they are accomplishing this?
Is there some type of regulator on the voltage side when set for 2 ohm?
I see that they have switches for 2 ohm and for 4 ohm operation.

My next question is
Has anyone run a 2 ohm load with the amp switches set for 4 ohm?
What was the result?
Really wish someone had live data on this amp

This link shows the amp running 150 watts @2 ohm

It's called regulated vs unregulated power supply. There are quite a few amps that work like this.

When we run 8 speaks on that amp we switch to 2 ohm. When we run 6 or less we leave it at 4 ohm for best sound results if that helps you.

Thanks
Just curious how the switch from 2 ohm to 4 ohm accomplishes the task
I imagine it has an effect on the rail voltage.

Its not really adjusting the power on the fly like HD600/4
any load from 1.5 to 4 Ohm is regulated to the output automatically.
And I think that is what you are referencing.
Shame those amps wont fit, Im afraid its to deep @8.29 inches

Yes
I will be running 8 and planned on using the amp in 2 ohm mode
But good to know that its best in 4ohm fora 6 speaker system

I'm curious as to why the 6 speak set up sounds better on 4ohm mode? I'm about to add lowers making mine a 6 speak setup off that amp.

If I knew the scientific details as to why I would happily tell you but I can only speak to that ino the shop we get better sound results with 4 on 6 or less speakers. I honestly don't know why specifically. Sorry

Mak check out the review of the xDI version. There's a good technical explanation on how the "constant" power supply works. Seems as the switch essentially changes the power feedback loop, each providing power per load amount...2 or 4.

If I were to run 6 speakers I'd run the parallel channel at 2 and the other at 4.

^ not at all brother! Just trying to help.

Another thing to add about the Moto power supply is that it does rated power at 12 or 14v.

Thanks Haze
these two amps are very similar

The xDI runs much like the JL HD400 all automatic so to say.
JL calls it R.I.P.S. – Regulated, Intelligent Power Supply

Im still confused on the switch for 2 ohm and 4 ohm on the 600.4
I suppose the rails could be split between channels, thus letting you run a 2 ohm load on the front channel and a 4 ohm load on the rear channel
