serious question. is the gen 2 better than a gen 1 with a $200 amp when it comes to most bang for your buck? i run mine with a cvB54 and love it and retained FM reception
My only gripe with the Gen 1 is that I've had bad experience with it. Installed one where I wasn't happy with the sound, another where the low level outs weren't right, and had a friend with one that pulled it in 2 weeks due to bluetooth issues. As for the Gen 2, installed/sold a bunch without a single issue to date.

On Gen 2 for a digital media player it sure lacks functionality on the usb side without an external media player. The usb with thumb drive was slow, couldn't process much over 2gb of music and I didn't like that I couldn't advance folders with hand controls. Feel it was not well laid out overall and they jumped on the market with it too fast. If you have a Ipod that all changes except the left hand control still takes you to a point that is useless while riding IMO.
Yopper I'm running a ss 1000, the dang thing just rocks. My wife has even made the comment that it sounds better, she has never commented on the stereo other than turn it down
Ok, here's an update. My wife and I just came back from an 800 mile trip. The aquatic did a fantastic job. Mine plays a 32 GB 3.0 micro USB with no problem. I did however load all music on one folder. It will play on random or in alphabetical order with no problems. The gen 1 doesn't have an amp if memory serves me correct where the gen 2 does. My installer said that was why the clarity is much better.
Even tho I don't have the adjustments I had on my Sony the sound and separation is still great. Yes the screen is hard to see in the sun. I had no problems using my handle bar controls. Btw, our return trip home was in one of the tropical storms off the cost of VA and NC, it didn't even fase the radio. Now everyone is asking if the extra $200 is worth it. To me yes it is, to some maybe not. IMHO it was well worth the $500 I spent. My set up is aquatic h/u, ds18 6.5 fairing speakers, bt 6.5 lower speakers, Alpine spr 6.5 rear speakers. I do still have some fm reception but it's not the greatest. I hope this helps some with questions.
