Default help installing Biketronics speaker breackets

I'm installing the Biketronics amp and speakers in my 16 Streetglide. I'm now trying to install the speaker brackets and the instructions are not helping. It seems that the 2 stock small screws that are being reused to attach the bracket on the top side are not long enough to bite. Am I doing something wrong or should I just get longer screws?
Anything else that I should know while I'm doing this?
Help much appreciated.

When I installed mine everything went together as planned. Maybe a picture so we can see?

Those top screws should fit perfect but if u have time on your side run to the hardware store and get some hex head bolts to replace the stock ones and if u want them just a touch longer it will not hurt a thing.

Also get a 7/16 ratcheting and flex wrench.

Replace them with hex bolts, much easier to work with. I believe I use 1" long with washers and lock washers. Take a quick measurement just to be sure.
