One thing l'm concerned about is bass. More like losing it really. I know that a motorcycle fairing doesn't make for the best enclosure and it's difficult to get deep bass out of a 6.5" speaker, but what about when you fire the bike up and ride it? They sound good when sitting in the garage but out on the road things change. Is it in the radios workings?
On a bike in a open air environment bass will fade as speed increases, no way around it, and 6.5 speakers are incapable of producing deep bass. On a bike good bass is going to come from 6X9, 8" or 8.8" in the lids/bags. Deep bass will come from 10" or 12" in the bags. Saying that most classic rock music doesn't produce deep bass like hip-hop or rap so 6X9's in the lids should work well.
For the fairing a good pair of component speakers will produce more bass and will be louder than coax speakers. 150 watts per channel of power is a good minimum to start with.
What model is the Alpine amp, and do you plan on keeping it?
Can you post a pic of the metal grills currently installed?
It's an old Alpine 3540 that l've had since who knows when. It's old but it's almost like it was made for this application as far as mounting goes. Mounting holes lined up perfectly with existing holes in the tray above the radio. It's not a powerful amp by any stretch but it worked for the time being. It will be going back into storage once the new stuff is in place.
Ha! Definitely old school vintage amp!! At 30w x 4 you're gonna have to step the game up a little bro. Decent amp back in the day but it's not gonna make the cut these days! No where close!! You're gonna need at the very least 100w per speaker and that's minimal!!
I have a 2015 Street Glide Special and l'm looking to upgrade the audio. I currently have an old Alpine amp, Stage 1 Boom Speakers and a BT355. I wanted the metal grilles and the speakers came with them in the deal.
I will be buying a set of Biketronics speaker brackets but l'm looking for advice on the rest.
It will just be a set of fairing speakers but may add lids in the future so that's something to keep in mind. I really don't want a set of speakers with seperate tweeter (components).
My main source of music comes from the radio. No country music and not a big rap music fan. Mostly rock and classic rock.
Help spend my money guys. I know that there are some knowledgable guys here ready to help.
Maybe u should look into a different source of music. The radio is not gonna hlep your speakers sound good at all. So why waste the money.
