Default Help with first phase

I've been lurking and reading here for weeks, and I'm not really any closer to choosing a system than I was before I started. It's difficult to choose when I have no idea what these setups really sound like. I've listened to some vids, but it's just not the same as hearing it in person. I've got an '11 Ultra Classic that has the stock everything at the moment. I have to do this in phases as money allows and phase 1 will be an amp and fairing speakers. Next year will be a new head unit and rear speakers, then possibly subs in the bags the following year. I have a budget of about $600 for this phase. I'm not trying to be the baddest on the block, but like most everyone else I want loud and clear. I'd love to keep my FM, I listen to every genre of music, but mostly rock. Of course I want it to sound good in the parking lot, but I'm more concerned about how it sounds on the road. Don't need plug and play, but I'm not real keen on hacking harnesses either. I'd really appreciate any recommendations.

Welcome to the forum. I spent 13 yrs in the Macomb Twp area, kind of tough driving around there with a license plate of "THEEOSU", but it was fun.

You've got a timeline and a budget, that's half the battle. You're absolutely correct, the amount of info out here can be mind boggling and it's tough to decide from a bunch of youtube videos. If I was in your shoes I'd be looking at the classifieds right now. A lot of guys are switching out good equipment to go to the DD AW 6.5 component set up, so BT amps and speakers are cheaper than I've seen them in many months. Grab up a used BT 2180 (or better yet a 4180) and some 7.1s or moto 602s and you're in great shape for your front stage for under $600. Save a few extra bucks and you can have your new aftermarket HU (huge improvement in sound over the stocker) this year too.

No matter what you do, don't totally cheap out on the first purchase. The front stage is the most important going down the road, and a few extra bucks now can save you hundreds in changes later. At the very least get a mid to upper level set of speakers that you will be happy with and can stick with as your other stages progress.

As stated already the DD AW6.5s and tweeter setup is the hot ticket around here. I'm not sure how much the component sets are going for, but i can see you getting into an AW6.5, tweeter, and an amp to push them within your budget no problem. Get ahold of BaggerAudioLab, forum sponser, and Haze will take good care of ya.

I definitely want to do it right the first time. Can't afford to keep swapping components to get where I should have been to begin with

Trying to get a hold of Haze but I don't seem to have PM privileges yet. Can someone point him my way or shoot me contact info? Thanks. And obviously if anyone else has any suggestions I'd welcome them as well

I have purchased the lids and the pioneers. Haven't installed yet. I'm looking for input on the amp, double up what I have (2 channel) or purchase 4 channel. If so, go with low budget/high power or step up to RF or Alpine. Don't see the Alpine's I'm running here much. I know I'm not going to get much bass.
Anyway... Input is what I'm looking for.
