I am looking to upgrade my fairing speakers on my 2016 SGS and have decided on the DD AW6.5 for the fairing but my question is,will the JL MHX 280/4 drive these and the tweeters/horns?
Second question is it looks like you guys are running these speakers with the T2's, AT28's, or the BT30's. What is the difference in these three sound or build wise? I plan to mount them in the center of the grill so is depth the issue?
For reference I have no plans of adding lowers or lid speakers I just want to upgrade the batwing. From all the reading it seems like you guys have tried it all so your input is appreciated.
If u are not concerned with $$$$, I would get a Micro with a bit more headroom for those speaks i.e. JL MX 500, D4, RF, etc...
As for the tweets, depends on what ur looking for in sound quality and freq range. From what my ears tell me this is how they rate In good, better, best order. T2, BT30, AT28,
I went with the BT30, the middle of the pack based on price. As for sound, I have not heard the others, except for videos posted here which makes it hard to discern the difference between them, but as Tailwind and others have stated, they are in the middle as well. For my ears, I like the BT30s. They sound great w the AWs. They are loud but not overly so and they are not harsh at all. If you do go with these, just be sure to wire the crossovers properly, there is a thread on these that has a discussion on this (short of it, crossover don't follow industry standards for wire color coding) and again thanks to Tailwind for the great info on that.
As for mounting, I have them in a 2016 Ultra, so same batwing as you. No issues. depth or otherwise, with mounting them in the center of the grill. I did get the BT speaker brackets and hogtunes metal grills for the install, which ensured I had no issues with the mounting of either.
As I read through all the posts about upgrading audio in the batwing fairing the one thing that keeps coming up is a concern for me.
Do you really lose FM reception with putting an amp in the fairing? Is there an amp that doesn't cause this? I know everyone runs MP3's or ipods but I'm old school and actually use my radio a lot.
Thanks for all the wisdom and advice.

I use mine alot too. Any of these are shielded and will protect your FM reception better than other class D amplifiers.
