Default Rushmore TMS65 Speaker - new setup

I said I would start a new thread outlining my affordable amp and speaker package - for $500 and a couple accessories here is what I got

Rockford TMS65 Speaker 4ohm 75w RMS for 2014 up touring $300
Rockford PBR300x4 Amp - $95 on the forum
But Line leveler BT355 $80
No amp install kit - made my own

So far I have not fine tuned everything for gain and volts but I did get in the bike and fired it up in the garage. So far I am very pleased with the sound and that is with the gain at 3 on the amp. When it stops raining I will get it on the road and hear it and adjust some more..but so far it is plenty load and extremely clear.

I will post a video of the sound on YouTube once it finish adjusting this weeekend.

Many said I would be disappointed in the amp. But so far it seems to serve the purpose. I will compare my radio to my friends BT system side by side soon.

Brian I'm curious as to why you chose this particular combination.

I think I read every thread on here for 2 weeks. No one really had the holy grail answer. So just researching and reading I decided to try this set up for $500 the bank isn't broke and I can move into LED lighting upgrades.

But after I picked up that amp for cheap I wanted to make sure I had a 4ohm speaker set to match the 4ohm amp output. And I figured if I don't like amp that's a fast switch. These speakers should match any top line amp out there.

I was told by Rockford the amp had a line leveler built in. But I did not find anything else about it. So I added one to be safe. It's before the amp so I still get same output from amp.

You did right by getting the Line Leveler as RF fed you a line of crap. As far as matching the amp and speaker outputs, your answer is exactly why I posed the question. When matching an amp to a set of speakers, you always want the amp to be rated at 1.5 times the RMS of the speaker. This gives the amp head room so that it's not being pushed at its max to power the speakers properly. Your setup is identically matched power wise so there's no head room at all. Expect this amp to run really hot, which they're known to do anyway. I suspect in the summer heat you can expect this amp to cut out on you due to over heating. As far as the Holy Grail....we're still searching for that on a daily basis here.

I know they are matched at the 75w rms but I figure with turning it up to 6v or 5v instead of 4v, if I understood the articles correctly, I should be able to keep the gain down a little on the amp requiring less work.

Again $95 if it doesn't work I trash it for a bigger one

Sounds good brother. Not bashing you or your setup at all. Just trying to help educate.

You know I hear guys say that all the time. " I think I read every post on here for two weeks" Like Bates. I'm not bashing your decision to go with the Rockford PBR300X4. But I will say if you read every post on here for the last two weeks then you would know that amp is not a very good amp. Matter of fact that amp would be at the bottom of the list. As Bates said we're here to educate the new guys on what works well on our bike and what does not.

I'd say those speakers were not mentioned very much either. Again, like Bates I was also curious as to why you choose this combo. You could poll 100 guys on this forum and not find that combo. Turning that amp up to 5 or 6v will not help the sound quality of the amp or allow you to keep your gains lower. That setting has absolutely nothing to do with the gains. It's a high level adjustment for input to the HU. Again. bad info.

If you are happy with the amp. That's all that really matters. What we are saying is you could have done a much better job of researching before choosing this amp and speaker combo.

Now, I'm not a radio expert or anything, but if you research all the HD sites that AMP isn't bad, and at $95 I figure it's worth a shot.

I had the Rockford KIt in my 2012 until I blew a speaker. I swapped it out for the BT kit with 7.1s and love it but for the $$$$ difference idk if it was worth it. I installed then Rockford amp with Kappa 6.5 speakers in my dads SG and that sounds great!

I think the OP did just fine with his choices. New combos are always worth trying. That's how we learn what works.

What SB and Gann and others on here, that have a good understanding of sled stereo are offering you guys, is the opportunity to get free advice from guys that have run hundreds of combinations of every type of amp and speaker combinations from the entry level to hard core competition level equipment.

For people that need to allocate a limited portion of their bike build budget toward stereo, these guys can help you get the absolute most sound for the $$$ invested.

Read, ask questions, listen to the answers and then spend your $$$ on what works well together.
