4 8's or add a 10 or 12 in tourpack. Whats a few more bucks at this point?

If it were up to me starting all over I would go with a efficient sound quality system without putting holes in my fairing and hear the rear stage going down the big road riding 2 up.
I would have to resort to doing speaker lids as the wife and I tend to put a few miles on the sled when we can.So we need the storage room in the bags.

Get a king tour pak. When we did our quick overnight I was able to get both our rain gear, my leather coat and vest, her leather coat, toiletries and what not, and 2 changes of clothes each and flip flops (mainly for when we got there and walked around), and some tools. I still have a little room in the bags for 2 more changes of clothes in each bag. So to say you can't tour with speakers in the bags is null to me. Thinking about adding a kill switch of sort for the bag amp so when we are packed full i can run without them on riding any damage. And if it really came down to it I'd just throw my stock bags on and have all sorts of room for a real long trip (don't see any cross country trips anytime soon with an 8 month old and potentially a newborn in the future lol).

excellent thread allowing everyone to input
All great points guys. Yeah I really hope everyone purchases a speaker they like how it sounds!!! Thing is for most guys they can't just buy speaker after speaker looking for the right one. So the goal here to look at some technical stuff to consider when you tell yourself I want "more".

T - the thing with general specs and saying I like speakers in this range or that range is that company A may do their specs different than company B. Take for example the video below. I used to have an entire DS18 bike a few years back as one of my Area 51 builds. Go to 1:06 in the video and it puts on the screen that the speaker can do 60hz-16khz but then look at the actual representation on the analyzer. It had one little light come on at 1watt down to 60hz. The lights really start to come on around 125hz. When I ran those speakers I had to cross them around 100-120hz, and no way the played frequencies that high either. I know this isn't caveman talk or polish engineering, but when I was hunting my unicorn I used to love to read these types of threads on other forums. My hopes is that guys enjoy a thread other than "what brand should I use" and it get's them closer to their goal.

I'm confused. In the first paragraph u mentioned the need for technical stuff when u want "more" but in the second paragraph u are essentially saying not to trust technical stuff?

my last $.02... the 2nd best part of slyes meet and greet was to actually listen to other combinations that made up individual systems, cuz all the numbers and spec sheets in the world dont put music to my ear. i strongly suggest other local meet n greets... nothin but good times, good people and awesome systems to help you decide

Yes you are confused often brotha!!!

No worries, I'll try to help and explain it a little better. Understanding some technical aspects is as important as understanding how manufactures come up with specs since I know published specs are important to you. It's not just the numbers man, it understanding how they come up with them (and in the case of the vids it's a bunch of crap). I'll never claim to know all of this stuff, I'm just scratching the surface but as my builds get better and better I'm realizing this stuff is that much more important. When I look at specs now and see 80hz, I call the manufacturer and ask if that's at 1w, or at RMS. Huge difference man.

No need to try to sharpshoot me and dissect what I'm posting man. The intent here was for the good of the group.

If you can't rely on what the manufacturers are posting, what can you actually go by?

I have a limited with a king tourpack which keeps our personals in when on the road. When the wife and I go on trips we are gone for 5 to 15 days sometimes so space gets real limited QUICK. The sled will be 3 years old in August and we have 40k on the clock already.
The thought has crossed my mind to get a second set of bags for local riding.
As it is I keep tools and rain gear in one saddle bag and the other saddle bag houses cold refreshment for the long days on the sled.
So I look for the most efficient system I can get. As I stated earlier the only way to I see feasible is to get a set of lids.

My system consists of

Fairing. VO6.5 and at28 in the grills
Tourpack pods 601.4 and tweeters from cc6.5 component set
Powered by a stock 6.5 HU, psm,and an hdp4.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
