Stereo Help please
Hello I have a 2011 Electra Glide Ultra Classic
Need help getting a decent sound especially while riding...
Head unit Kenwood KDC-BT318U 22
Output Power / Channel 22 Watt
Max Output Power / Channel Qty 50 Watts x 4
Continuous Power / Channel Qty 22 Watts x 4
Amp Soundstream PN4.520D
520W Picasso Nano Series Class-D Digital 4-Channel Amplifier
Currently only have speakers in fairing I removed lowers and tour pack and don't want to cut hole sin my bags or take up room in them as I use them. So not many options to put speakers anywhere else unless I'm missing something....
I have been through a few sets of speakers and nothing sounds right. In my driveway it sounds ok but riding down the road they are just high treble and tinny. I know that you aren't going to get much bass out of 7.25 speakers but I have to believe that I can get a decent sound that I can actually listen to. I have messed with all the radio settings and nothing seems to work.
My wife and I took a 2000 mile ride last week and if the radio was on for 200 miles of that it would be a high estimate. It's so bad that I rather it be off.
So what do I need to do? What are the best speakers out there? Is it the head unit, the amp everything?
Thanks

What speakers have you tried that are sounding crappy? The output of your head unit's internal amp is irrelevant because you aren't using it, right? Are you setting gains and crossovers correctly? In the Pre-Rushmore bikes, many guys have used some polyfill behind speakers to soften them up, have you tried that? Might be worth a shot if you've got speakers in there already, as well as setting the amp and crossover accurately.
I guess if I was going to recommend speakers:
1. Digital Design AW 6.5 with their AT28 tweeters mounted in the grilles. You would bridge your amp to these. IMO, best component setup for the fairing.
2. AD Design CX62 (coax speaker) also bridged
3. Arc Moto 602s. Bridged. I've not used these personally but they've got great reviews.
4. On the more budget friendly end of the spectrum Infinity Kappa 62.11. These are 2 ohm speakers and should be run stereo, not bridged.
5. Lastly, there are some new Polk coax speakers that have come on the scene that appear to have some promise and are currently being tested by fellow member Tesnevo. The possible drawback on these are their profile. Unknown at this time if they will fit but it's possible.
Before chasing speakers, get yourself a bag of polyfill at Walmart or Hobby Lobby and put a layer behind each speaker to dampen the response. Check the thread up top called "gain setting" and start from scratch...make sure you're all wired up properly, make sure the settings on your head unit are where they need to be, make sure you are in the correct RCA output on the head unit, and then make sure your amp is set correctly with the HPF set around 80Hz. Report back with requested details and we'll get you rocking.

For a two speaker set up with what you currently have you could always bridge the 520.D to the 7.1's and use polyfil as suggested. The problem with that set up is the 520.D never produced enough wattage at 4 ohms to wake up the 7.1's. You're looking at about 90 watts for each speaker. The 7.1's need twice that amount to sound good. Been there. Otherwise you need to replace the amp and the speakers. A great two speaker system is the DD AW's and AT28 tweeters bridged to the D4 amp. Night and day difference!!

Well that certainly changes everything! I was under the assumption you had the Biketronics 7.1 speakers? Those Alpine 5 x7's are not the greatest speakers. Have no idea what 5x7 adapter they used to install those speakers in the fairing.
First thing you have to do is get some 6.5 adapters and 6.5 speakers in there. While you're at it you might as well get another amp or you could just go with the Infinity kappas and call it good with the SS amp. The Kappa set up will sound much better than what you have now.
