Default Need a Little help

here are a few pix of the new head unit soon to grace my 2008 sg.. it's all soldered and wired and ready for plug and play, my problem? what /where does the 3.5 mm plug ,plug into? The lead comes from the hand control wireing harness. Is it just for a special brand radio? I'm clueless, and have no idea. any help would be appreciated by me and countless others i can only assume. thanks in advance.

I'm going to venture a guess and say it's an input you leave accessible to plug in ipods or phones for a music source.

If you read in the directions that came with the controller it will say how to wire for different brands of Head units. Can't remember off the top of my head but I think Clarion is one that you use that plug for but most others you wire the way you have it.

I THINK MAYBE.

already have an aux input in the front of unit, but I think you may have something here....along those lines I thought it would connect the speakers to a cb if needed. it's getting taped and tucked and hope all is good.

while I have an audience, the wiring from the hand control to the stereo has the red and yellow backwards........usually the red is batt constant and the yellow ignition......they have it the other way......no big deal I guess.

I did read the wiring diagram and there was no mention of the 3.5 mm connector...hence the thread..it does seem strange that it tells you the wires for every thing else BUT the plug. it's obvious it connects the speakers to something, But it isn't with the head unit I have that came with the kit.

It's a marine radio,60 watts per channel bluetooth,cd,am/fm,with aux. came with ''kicker'' brand speakers 6.5's,speaker adaptors, hand control harness.....all for 198.00$ never heard of he marine radio though....called ''dual''. so far so good...won't be in til tomorrow.

You mite try looking at the HU instructions. Looking for connection procedure for hooking to steering wheel controls . The HUs that I have seen with the plug have had the hole for the plug in the lower left corner of the back side of the unit. But I'm sure there are different access points on some brands. Try it wired the way you have it and leave the plug hanging. If it does not work correctly look for the access point for the plug.

Glad you figured it out. Some radios, like my Sony 310BTX, have the input for the plug for the steering wheel controls. Other radios do not but you cut some wires on the radio harness and if I remember correctly your steering wheel controller should have come with a female and bare wires that you connect to the radio wiring harness. For some reason, I keep thinking it was a brown wire. It's been a year since I did mine.
