Default External Microphone

Is there any way to add an external microphone to answer bluetooth phone calls without adding a headset? Boom 6.5 head unit.

there was a write up in another forum, guy was using small mic from amazon and a 2.5mm jack installed in fairing wired directly to intercom plug inside fairing on road glide. but i can't find it. I have a CVO, so i just took an old headset apart and and purchased a plug and made one that plugged into head fairing. I'm sure it would work on an ultra too though. it works ok, even better if you lean into it a little. I'm looking into trying different mics, but i haven't tried any lately because it does work well enough to talk about all i want to when in riding lol

Who needs a phone on a bike.

Dude, disconnect for a while and enjoy the world around you.

I have tried various microphones. I know it could work with the right microphone, but have not found it yet. What it needs to be is not a telescoping microphone, but one you pin on your chest. I have found something similar that works at 80mph without a problem, but not one that will plug in to the head unit.

I've heard of folks using the earlier version cb mikes. You would however have to push the mic button to talk or open it up and hardwire the mic to be "keyed" all the time

I was thinking the same thing, but the whole reason for me doing this was that i didn't want a cord running to my helmet or sleeve or anything like that.

Thanks for the input, dont want to be tied to a headset and since I'm planning a several day ride would like to be able to answer a phone call for a short response til the next stop.

I have something very similar to this - https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...CABEgIcw_D_BwE

it is a different brand but looks exactly the same - I suspect from the same manufacturer. When I get home I will try and find it. If you clip this up by your chin somewhere - shirt or helmet strap - you can have conversations at 80MPH. The rub is that you have to connect to this devise via Bluetooth so you cannot connect to your stereo. Also you need to plug the output into your aux port and the battery doesn't last long so you need to run power to it. Kind of a PITA solution but I tested at 80mph and people didn't even know I was on a motorcycle. This is why I know there is a microphone somewhere that can do the job....
