Damn!! Thanks for your patience with me Bates! Guess I will have to re-think my "wants & needs" and get it apart to have a real good look in there behind the fairing. Gonna be a couple of months unfortunately as the bike is in storage and we're in the depths of winter. Sigh.......

OK...I'm going to ask one more time...last time I promise.

Got my Metra BT unit today and it's much smaller than the guy at Metra told me. When I asked the dimensions of it, he tells me 8.8" x 5.8" x 3.5". Well the dumba$$ gave me the box (that everything is packed in) dimensions. The unit actually is only about the size of the CB module at 6" x 3.6" x 1 "...much smaller and pretty lightweight. I'm thinking I should be able to re-locate the CB module and zip tie this thing in there somewhere leaving the space above the HU for amp location. May still go with a smaller amp than the PN4.1000D??

Once it warms up and I can get at my bike, I'll have a better look at it. I may be getting a bit closer to enjoying cake & ice-cream Bates

Lefty, you have me thinking about this metra..... I think that thing is supposed to sit on top of the radio next to the cb if I read about it correctly. So.... I don't see why it couldn't sit under the radio with the cb such as the j&m relocator bracket works? I'm going to look into that, I wasn't aware that thing could let you use the hand controls and such. Pretty nifty device, if it's close in price and mounting it underneath with the cb works I may go that route as well instead of the iron cross mod. I also noticed it has a USB, is that just for charging or does that allow play from a thumb drive?

Can I ask what you paid for yours and where you bought it from?

Hey Red! Yes, it's a pretty slick unit...that's why I prefer it over others. Once installed, you just select "aux" and your phone would pair up automatically just like it would in your vehicle. You can then control it via the hand controls and info like song & artist will be displayed on the stock HU (that's one of the reasons why I want to get the backlight conversion done on mine).

As I mentioned above, now that I have it, it's pretty compact and should be able to locate it somewhere. Yes, the instructions say to mount on top of the HU but I was looking at that j&m bracket as well and don't see why both the CB module & the BT unit wouldn't fit underneath. The limiting factor will be the length of the patch/interface harness. My bike is in storage and not accessible right now but I'm thinking it should work. Leaves above the HU open for amp install then. If you go for it and order the j&m bracket, let me know how it works out.

I'm not really sure how the USB functions. Will have to look into that but it's not of high priority for me. As long as I can stream my tunes from my iPhone via BT...I'm happy! If the USB would charge my phone, that would be a bonus.

The Iron Cross BT mod is $140 + shipping your HU. As I'm in Canada, our options are very limited so I got my Metra unit off ebay for $188 + shipping. I see in the US, many items are shipped for free...lucky buggers! With a quick search, here's a site I found where it's selling for $169. You may find it even cheaper. Good Luck!

Lefty,
Thanks for the leed....I found a bit more info on the metra last night and found it for $163 & free shipping. I guess you guys get screwed up there. When you find it on Amazon check out the reviews, the reviews there are WAY more helpful than any other info I could find, one guy said the USB is for charging only, so it's a bonus for you but no playback from it.... Bummer.
I will check into some brackets and let you know for sure but im sure something could be fabed up easy enough. My fairing is off right now so if there is anything you need to know just let me know. I don't see any issue at all with harness limitations. I just placed my order at biketronics yesterday so I need to call and see if this will hook up with all that stuff but I just mailed my radio to iron cross for pre amps and did not order the bt mod, I will either get the metra or use my plug in for now. Took the 3 year old to breakfast and heading to the dealer next to check and see if they have any cvo lower speaker pods and grills.

I have a 16 Limited. Does this mean no adapters for the Polks in the rear pods?
