So, what pods should be used for the 165.1's. I just decided to put the 2nd pair of my 165.1's in the lowers, due to how much they would be protruding from the rear pods. I have a 07 ultra classic. I know the fairings are different for 14 & up. Does that matter?

I have an 07 Ultra classic as well. Get the Fairing factory pods. The SV 165.1 fit like a glove. Get these pods:
I would break out the Dremel tool and sand the ring down until it fits. You should only have to sand off just a little bit all the way around the grill for it to drop in. If you sand the grill closest where it sits in the recessed area and not out towards the outside you wont see the sanded part since it will be hidden by the speaker pod. I had to do it for mine.
I really like the look of yours, but am going for the stock look. I'm not against making the ones I got fit, but there is a part number that will fit without modification. the CVO grill part # I gave the dealer seemed to be discontinued. He didn't have a replacement number besides the one above which are boom.

Good luck on your hunt for the right part#. I would do the same as you but they wont work with the db motos.
Correction, the pod is deep enough but not wide enough for the speaker to sit flush
I just got my Fairing Factory pre 14 lowers the other day and have this exact same problem with the ADs I want to use. I have some spacers on order to see if it will allow them to fit. If I had known this I probably would have tried to track down some OEM speaker mounts somewhere.
