I guess I don't see any reason to have the AVC on after installing an aftermarket system. What does it gain you? If I can't adjust my own volume with the thumb control, I'm just being lazy. IMHO, having my volume change with the speed of the bike automatically isn't worth the risk. All risk, no reward!!!!
General rule of thumb: If you're running a powerful amp shut the AVC off. You can get away with 1 or 2 bars but As T and Dsm said. Why risk it? Here's the problem. When setting the gains on the amp either by DMM or ear there is no way to account for the AVC with the bike sitting still.
Ok, I am not arguing or disputing what you said. I talked to the guy at Arc audio. He agreed about the source and it causing distortion. He also said that with their amp and wiring, that there were things built into it to their system that you didn't need a line leveler or a flash of the HU. He said that the leveler would lower the voltage which their system didn't need. That basically their system worked best this way. He also said I wouldn't blow the amp, that it had a protective feature to keep that from happening. He did say it was possible to blow the speakers using a bad source.
Just passing along what I was told, because I don't know, just trying to learn. And that's why I ask so many questions.

They told me the same thing. After switching to the BT LL The sound was much better. I tore into the ARC harness to investigate and all that's in the harness is a resistor.

To add to this, if you are determined to run the avc, set your system up to accommodate to run the avc then you are sacrificing the full potential of your system by having the gains down to accommodate for the avc. I for one do not want to spend a bunch of $$ to upgrade an audio system only to deplete its potential by having the ability for the volume to adjust automatically. I want my system to run at its full potential at low speeds as well as high speeds. My left thumb works just fine. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. whew.......I need coffee....
For those of you that are dead set on using your AVC, when you see the magic smoke come out of your fairing, remember that you were warned here first. Countless members have tried and failed. Proceed at your own risk. At this time there's no known solution for magic smoke replacement except digging deep into your wallet.....again.

I think the point of my post was an attempt at uncovering the specific science behind AVC/SVC.
Without question, do not use it if u cannot account for exactly what is happening behind the curtain.
Currently it's a magical feature that creates magic smoke.
It's actually a brilliant question. I have yet to see tangible technical data surrounding the HD AVC but have seen magic smoke.
Is it because of AVC technology or is it because of SVC technology?
The absolute best strategy is to not use it, but it would be interesting to see defined operating parameters for the folks that may want to play in that sandbox.
Most guys run their shix pretty hard thus an involuntary bump in volume can fry stuff pretty quick, but what specifically is happening behind the curtain?

got it, I guess i'll make sure it's set to off from now on, I'm not really sure where its at, and since I tuned my system sitting still I think I can assume it would have made no difference where it was set at that time?

I don't see anyone saying they are "dead set on using it" just asking about it....
