Yeah it does use it. It just plugs into the included female with the brown and brown/white wires. The brown /white is not used. Page 6 item 1 c
You're correct Ken. I forgot about the adapter that comes with it (I've never had to use it). I should've known better. There's not a brown wire in the Metra harness.
