Default 2006 HK Volume/Decibel Issue

Here is the back story, quick version.

2005 Road Glide with a HK head unit from a 2006 Street Glide. J&M front speakers (correct OHM for '06) and Hog Tunes lid speakers with HT amplifier. Head unit has been to Iron Cross twice.

First time it didn't work at all (I got it for free), they got her up and running and did a color conversion to the screen. Second time the screen had gone blank and I was having a volume issue. At 75 MPH I could not here the radio. They adjusted the fader, they felt that was my volume issue. IC also fixed the screen.

It is back and functioning as designed, I believe. This is not an IC issue, just giving you the background.

So to my question. The radio overall volume or decibel level still seems low to me. With the stock '05 head unit I never had a volume issue. Now at highway speed I have the damn thing maxed out and sometimes still hard to hear. BUT the second thing which is really is the second question, when I adjust the volume with the handle bar switch, either UP or DOWN, the volume of the radio always goes UP while I am holding the switch. It is a momentary volume increase, unless I already have the volume maxed out, then I can hold it and the volume has a noticeable increase that I can maintain as long as I hold the button. Strangely even if I am lowering the volume, I still experience a momentary increase in volume before the decrease.

So what do you think? Hoping this explanation makes sense. I just want to hear the tunes when touring, I do not need it to be a monster. Thanks in advance.

Arch, You might want to reach back out to Iron Cross, since your situation seems unique! Some options to consider would be, if you have to send the HU back in you might consider having them add Low Level outputs to it (for RCA's) then you should get better sound if you decide to add a different amp (HT amp is just ok) and speakers! Another option would be put in a after market HU.

U might just move towards a modern aftermarket HU. IC is great at what they do but they can only do so much with an 2006 HK.

Firstly. You need to inspect the amp settings. Make sure your gains are matching the HU. Not a fan of that amp but should at least be getting volume out of it. Secondly turn your AVC off. Try those two things and get back to us.

First, front speakers have no amp, just the HK to the J&M speakers. Rear speakers seem to be functioning fine, she is not complaining about the volume. Second, I had the AVC off, no difference. But thanks for the suggestions.

I am getting close to resigning myself that the HK is just maxed out. But still open for more suggestions.

What is puzzling me is as described, with the volume maxed and I hold the volume button up, I get some more output. So I know the power is there, but for some reason I can't get to it. Frustrating.
