So Ive upgraded my sound system and need some advice from the amazing people on here. Im not an audiophile by any means. Just wanted it a little louder.
2107 Street Glide
Installed the Sony XAV-AX5000. I really like it so far. I also installed 2 6.5 DS18s in the fairing. No amp yet. Still looking for one that will let me keep my FM stations.
So after installing the first speaker and comparing it to the original Harley speaker. I noticed the Harley speaker still produced better bass notes. Im assuming since the new speaker takes up a lot more room in the pod that its affecting it? Or do I just not have enough power pushing the new speakers? Theyre rated at 300 rms. The new speakers are def louder, but it seems the Harley speakers sound better. Please help 🙏🏻
Ive also got lowers on the way with speaker pods and plan on installing two more 6.5 DS18s in them as well. So Im guessing I REALLY need an amp now lol. Thanks in advance.
The amp is the heart and sole of your set up so do some research and get a good one up front. Spend a little more $$ now and it will save you in the future. Define what your needs are and go from there. Some are louder than others, some are hard to fit, some loose fm reception so decide what your final goal is and go from there.

So are you looking to expand in the future or do you want to keep a two speaker set up? All good advice from the guys. Yes you need an amp. Yes you need to get rid of the DS18's. With a high speed head unit like the one you have. Saying you want it a "Little" louder and you're not an audiophile is counter intuitive at this point. You now have audiophile equipment and you should plan to use it accordingly. That head unit of yours can do some amazing things. As my friend SBates always says. It would be blasphemy to use it with only two speakers and no amp. lol
There are some guys here with some amazing systems bro, All willing to help. Just have to decide what your end goal is. That is if you only want to do it once, Otherwise you'll be chasing this audio thing for the next 2 or 3 years. Trust me.
