Default Thought it Would Sound Better

So I’ve upgraded my sound system and need some advice from the amazing people on here. I’m not an audiophile by any means. Just wanted it a little louder.

2107 Street Glide

Installed the Sony XAV-AX5000. I really like it so far. I also installed 2 6.5” DS18’s in the fairing. No amp yet. Still looking for one that will let me keep my FM stations.

So after installing the first speaker and comparing it to the original Harley speaker. I noticed the Harley speaker still produced better bass notes. I’m assuming since the new speaker takes up a lot more room in the pod that it’s affecting it? Or do I just not have enough power pushing the new speakers? They’re rated at 300 rms. The new speakers are def louder, but it seems the Harley speakers sound better. Please help 🙏🏻

I’ve also got lowers on the way with speaker pods and plan on installing two more 6.5” DS18’s in them as well. So I’m guessing I REALLY need an amp now lol. Thanks in advance.

What DS18s? It's all about the Hz freq range brother and DS18 is not known for the warmer freqs ( lower freqs).

Since ur pregnant with one set, u could drop them in the lowers to capture the midrange freqs and get urself a nice warm full range for the fairing.

What model number DS18?

The amp is the heart and sole of your set up so do some research and get a good one up front. Spend a little more $$ now and it will save you in the future. Define what your needs are and go from there. Some are louder than others, some are hard to fit, some loose fm reception so decide what your final goal is and go from there.

You guys might want to peel your advice back a little bit. The OP is riding a bike from 89 years in the future and I'm sure lots has changed.

Instead of an amp, maybe a flux capacitor would be better. Lol

So are you looking to expand in the future or do you want to keep a two speaker set up? All good advice from the guys. Yes you need an amp. Yes you need to get rid of the DS18's. With a high speed head unit like the one you have. Saying you want it a "Little" louder and you're not an audiophile is counter intuitive at this point. You now have audiophile equipment and you should plan to use it accordingly. That head unit of yours can do some amazing things. As my friend SBates always says. It would be blasphemy to use it with only two speakers and no amp. lol

There are some guys here with some amazing systems bro, All willing to help. Just have to decide what your end goal is. That is if you only want to do it once, Otherwise you'll be chasing this audio thing for the next 2 or 3 years. Trust me.
