Gauge comes into play for 3 main reasons, Then length of the wire ran, the resistance, and the amount of power (watts) being fed to speakers. With that said. 500 and less and the length of the bike 14-16 would be fine. Over 500 look into 14g. More power than that and you are looking at 12-14g.
Not all speaker wire is created equal. Stinger and Knukonceptz are the better brands.
So is everyone running new wire when changing out speakers and adding an amp or is this for like lowers and saddle bag speaker set up?
And what are you losing by using the stock speaker wiring?
My first setup I used the stock wiring with factory connectors and it seemed fine. But as i upgraded to better quality speakers and amp, i felt it was appropriate to use better quality parts. The Stinger Pro 14g wire was I think 39cents a foot. Dont know how much difference it makes.. but seems silly to spend hundreds or thousands on amp/speakers and not $20 on better preformance wire to connect them. I ran new wire to fairing, tonight i installed lowers so to them and ran new to tour pack.
I guess same idea on me buying the better Stinger rca cables, a ferule kit/crimper for the wire ends, sound deadner for outer fairing and spending a few bucks more for real good power cable,etc.... I like to think the sum of parts gives me more performance..but maybe at 80mph it might not matter..lol
