Default Dealer said I am in Boom jail

i did the Boom, stage 2 amp and speakers on my 18 SGS. Yes, I know, I know, I could have gotten a lot better with an aftermarket setup, but this was easy to throw in the deal and have them install and it sounds so good on the dealer’s display, and on the bike when parked and in acc. mode. The problem is that it sounds tinny, loses the bass, and radio reception is a joke, once the engine is running and you are in motion. My thought was to add some nice 6x9’s in the lids with a second amp. This time I was planning to find the best basic aftermarket I could get. Probably RF. However, the dealer is telling me that I have to do Boom because of the matching up of my first amp to the new second amp, and some stuff about ohms or something. Without getting too technical, are they right that I have to go with Boom, or else rip out the stuff I already have and start over? I want to do something simple that will fill in the missing sound when on the highway. Thx.

I personally would not try to bandaid this Boom situation brother. Start stuffing cash in the mattress and make a clean transition out of the Boom at the appropriate time. At that time u will want a vision for a complete system where the amp and speakers all fit the puzzle and compliment each other.

I have to agree. Also, you will never get good fm reception with the boom amps in play. Sadly another story of how the boom system fails during a ride. My buddu is on his 3rd set of 5x7 rears with 4200 miles on the 2018 cvo sg.

I can understand wanting the OEM HD system. It's plug and play and a clean install, and sound awesome on the demo setup on the showroom floor. The problem is the quality of the equipment and the price (which is why I never considered Boom). You soon realize it's not what you want or need. However, the good part is that the aftermarket has you covered 100%. Between the quality components you can buy yourself and the amount of very knowledgeable folks who are willing to assist here in the audio forum, your possibilities are almost endless. My entry into motorcycle audio is still new but my recommendation is to scrap the boom system, eBay the stuff you have now, and have everyone here help you build a system when you are ready.

Thanks so much. I just checked out his website, and he definitely appears to know what he’s doing. I will go by there this week. It’s only a few miles from where I live. I’ve got rider rewards bucks to pay for the lids, and I can sell the Boom II amp and speakers on CL, so maybe the overall hit won’t be too bad.
