Default upgrading CVO sound system

While on our last trip we got stuck on the highway for 30 minutes or so. During this time a buddy of mine cranked his stereo up, his bike had a really nice sound of bass and volume level. Of course i started asking questions to solve my stereo envy. He said all he did was have HD upgrade his to Boom and spent $1200.

Being that i have a CVO limited I already have stage 1 speakers, Can i just get the upgraded amp to achieve the same thing? The dealer i spoke with basically said no, but I didn't get the feeling that they knew anything about stereo's.

I am also interested in adding speakers to my lowers, I have looked at the boom upgrades as well as some aftermarket options.

Seems the Boom and Aftermarket options are similar priced, but do i really want some stereo shop tearing into my fairing rather than a dealer who at least knows something about what they are doing?

So what does this crowd say? Boom or aftermarket? I am not trying to blow ear drums, I simply want a little more bass and volume. The vendor at the Milwaukee rally was $2400 to replace the 4 factory speakers and add amps. To me that sounded high for 4 speakers and 2 amps.

I would rip out everything boom from your bike. So much better out there for the money.

Biggest question is are you willing to get your hands dirty and do the install yourself?

18 CVO here. Boom is fine in a parking lot with the engine off. Outside of that aftermarket is the only real option.

No, I have neither the time or the experience to rip apart my bike.

Then you will need to pay someone else to do it then. You just need to go with your gut as to who you trust to do the work.

For better or worse, a lot of what goes on here is exchange of knowledge about equipment and techniques that are superior to what the Motor Company has to offer. These boards are ripe with stories of BOOM speakers and amps taking dirt naps if that helps you decide.

Since we are on the CVO, I have a Army Brother that has a 17 CVO and we talked the other day and he would like to change things out. Is there a list of things he needs if he keeps with the stock HU but then changes the other speakers out and adds amps. I believe the CVO is fairing, rear Pods, bag lids and possibly lowers. But Im not 100% sure.

I decided to go with Sinister Sound, I dropped it off this morning. They are replacing all 4 factory speakers and amp. Their reviews are good and all the videos show good workmanship. I cant pick it back up until the week of the 15th due to my schedule but I will report back once complete.

I've looked at their website long enough to figure out they have about $120 in speakers maybe. The enclosure idea is nice but they charge a bundle for it. I do believe it will sound Good though.

I guess it's more like $200 in speakers after consulting Parts Express.
