Depends on how old u are. Young folks can hear up to about 20K. Us old fuxx generally can't hear much above 15K.

I am far from experienced in this whole arena but I have learned a few things along the way. What works for some systems just doesn't play well with others. Going to BRF, I thought my setup sounded pretty good. After playing with the tune while there, everything fell way off the mark.

What basic tune worked well for a couple others, was horrible on mine. So much so, I thought I had equipment failure. When I got back home, I put the tune on it that I had prior and it went back to sounding good. To look at the plotter and graph, you'd think mine should sound horrible, but doesn't.

After much thought and a couple conversations, I came to the conclusion that the Booms eq curve is what makes that drastically different. Mine is the 0amp/4sp flash. The tune I tried in WI was from guys that had 2amp/8sp flash. The large difference you see in my plotter/graph is what I'm assuming is having to correct/compensate for that swing.

I may flash mine this winter and see where I land. The downside is, I'll have to wait for a good day to hear it while riding.

This where a very basic RTA program can provide feedback for a lot of these assumptions.
Open a new DSP tune file, zero it all out and u will know what ur HU base line is.

Maybe ur base line is far different than what u think it is.

I tried the 8/2 flash and it was flat, a good clean starting point. Sounded like *** in my opinion until tweeking but the sound was cleaner, especially the lows. I was able to get clean, hard hitting lows after a little boost in the bottom. The thing I didn’t like was that the bass and treble adjustments in the hu seemed to do very little. Maybe that was due to my settings. I can see where you can get a better sound but I wasn’t confident enough that I could get my entire play list to sound good without the bass/treble in hu so I switched back to 4/0. Probably a mistake. I may switch back after I’m more comfortable with the dsp.

I will be swapping DSPs this week and planned on getting out a couple of pieces from my tuning arsenal to see where my stock HU is throwing out as for what frequencies are boosted and flattened as per HDs 4 speaker 0 amp and my speakers fall together.

I will get a couple of pictures of my findings if they are worth while and share with the group.

I believe that's exactly right. After reading Respects post, I started looking at RTA setups. If there's interest of others, I may invest in one.

Please do and thank you. I believe my lows could be cleaner. At times they sound a little muddy.

Oh hell, what's the challenge in that? Lol

I still like my stock head unit for waterproof and integration. I've considered it, just not for very long.

The 8/2 flash is my start point - I will spend the winter building up a new system - including drinking the magical DSP water
