Default Need help with a new stereo

I have a16 RGU and I’m look8ng to move up from the stock boom system. First looked at the stage II system and even the dealer mentioned the speakers are not lasting. I’ve now been looking at the JM Rocker for its simplicity in install system but after looking through this forum it appears I would be better to buy all components and install myself. Your forum has answered my first question regarding the head flashing by installing a line leveler.
Im unsure how much space is available for amp, any suggestions would be appreciated. Is the existing wire8ng harness used at all for TP speakers or will everything be replaced.?

looking for help

welcome to the audio forum
and yes, for the cost of an extremely inferior (garbage) JM system, you can put together an amazing system yourself.
I am not a Rushmore guy, but many here are and will help guide you through every step.

perhaps a start would be to list which locations on your bike you want to upgrade (fairing only, tourpak, saddlebag lids?)
and a budget amount so they can help steer you in the right direction

should be able to put together something very nice with that budget. use the search function and you will be able to see all kinds of build that folks have done and get the reviews.

Agreed, with that budget there are lots of good options. Keep researching on the forum. There is a lot of information here, just got to dig into it.

You'd be wise to start with finding the right amp, by that I mean get some of the Road Glide guys to spill the beans on what amps will fit in the shark nose and exactly how and where they've put them. As you put together a short list of amps that will work in the Shark, pay special attention to their crossover functionality. We dont want to cast you into the deep end having to monkey with a DSP at this point so an amp that has high pass adjustability between 80-100Hz will be imperative to making your speakers play where they are capable of playing.

Get yourself a list of a few tried and true amps and don't rush off to buy this stuff until you have everything thought out, objectives met and the finish line clearly defined. Paging Road Glide owners-- what fits other than a Arc 600.4 ?

If you are keeping the stock HU then the first thing you will need is a bt355 line leveler. If your HU has fade control then you will need 2 line levelers. I personally don't suggest buying a dsp for a 4 speaker setup as it wont benefit you with 4 speakers for the cost.

Next you will need some good quality rca cables. Stinger are some good quality rca's. These are what I use:

https://www.amazon.com/Stinger-SI421-5-Foot-2-Channel-Interconnect/dp/B005F1PJ1Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1544916297&sr=8-3&keywords=stinger+rca+cable+1.5 https://www.amazon.com/Stinger-SI421-5-Foot-2-Channel-Interconnect/dp/B005F1PJ1Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1544916297&sr=8-3&keywords=stinger+rca+cable+1.5

Next depending on what amp you get you will need this as I have used this on several occasions:

https://www.amazon.com/Harley-Davidson-Universal-Aftermarket-Amplifier/dp/B01MR5EN67/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1544916187&sr=8-8&keywords=harley+amp+wiring+kit https://www.amazon.com/Harley-Davidson-Universal-Aftermarket-Amplifier/dp/B01MR5EN67/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1544916187&sr=8-8&keywords=harley+amp+wiring+kit

Amps and speakers are personal choices as some amp/speaker combos just don't sound as good as others. In personally like the stinger spx 700.4 or sound digital 800.4 evo. Both of those amps will serve you justice for your setup. Speakers are all over the place for SQ, loudness, fit and waterproof. It depends on what your final goal is. Coax are a good all around sound, components are better and PA setups can provide the best SQ/loudness and in most cases don't need as much power but tuning PA setup are a bit more challenging yet the rewards are far better.

Hope this helps.

I’ll ask some basic questions, component speakers would be separate tweeter and crossover ? And don’t know what PA,s are but I am planning to keep the head unit and thanks for clearifying the requirement of two line levelers.
Do the amps typically come with their own harnesses or is that where the rca cables come in?
finally for now , if I decide on a 4 channel amp can I later add two more speakers in the lowers.

thanks so much for your help

Most amps don't come with the wiring harness as why I mentioned the one above. The rca cables will be used to bring the signal from the line leveler(head unit) to the amp. Yes components have separate woofers/tweeters and use a passive crossover for that setup. PA refers to pro audio where specific speakers produce specific frequency responses (tweeter/horns, midrange/midbass).
