I agree that the nomenclature here is confusing I think at least partially due to lack of experience. I know I'm a novice anyway.
Another thought on PA speakers, they have a wide bandwidth, but they achieve it with stiff suspensions which limits excursion ultimately limiting low frequencies.
Heck one brand even puts it in the model number.

Right on! Now we r getting somewhere. And this example is perfect as a Mid-Range cause for my ears its garbage in ur fairing unless u have tons of other speaker area to compliment it. Ears totally throw up when I hear this speaker as a stand alone speaker, or as the overwhelming front stage of a complex setup.
Thus Mid-Bass for the fairing is more my flavor. Mid-Range in the lowers.
Don't care if it marketed as a PA or SPL or ????, just as long as it meets my personal freq spec objectives and is as efficient as possible for those freqs.

I don't like the sound of it standalone either. Additionally it's hard to match it's efficiency with anything short of a PA midbass. Now if you're ready to make that leap I think they work. I've decided that I am going to jump, but not this off season, a new baby pumped the brakes on that.
