Lightbulb How about this >?

I've been doing a bit of research and a lot of reading concerning audio set ups for my Harley. I am new to motorcycle audio (do's don'ts etc.) Based on what I've read and the tips you all have given, I'm steering clear of BOOM!. I want a great sounding system. I listen to metal, rock, blues, oldies, and some country. Want a well balanced set up for that. Looking for great fidelity at mid to high volumes with minimal distortion, not looking for deep bass or anything of that sort (all things relative, of course I still want to hear a kick drum). I ride a 2015 Ultra Limited with completely stock audio. Here's what I'm thinking of getting: the Focal FDP Sport Amp, (going to run 4 channels, one to each 4 ohm speaker- no need to run speakers in parallel or bridge amp channels here if my understanding is correct?) My speaker selection would be: Hertz MPX 165.3 Pros for the fairing, and Polk MM1 Series 6502's for the tour pak. I am intending on leaving the factory head unit in place. With that said, I have several questions> Do I need to have my factory head unit EQ flashed to FLAT and head unit amplification turned off? What kind of bracket will I, or can I use to mount the amp? Do I need to think about a DSP, or are the frequency filters on the Focal amp going to be sufficient for my purposes? Kind of cloudy on how the Focal amp will receive the input signal. I've spent some time on their site and it looks like Focal gives you the input AND output harnesses that with plug right in to the Harley Molex connectors. Next question; and probably most important to me: Can I use the existing Harley wire runs to all the speaker positions? It would be totally bad *** if so. Has anyone mounted the Polk MM1's in the tour pak, and the Hertz MPX 165.3's in the fairing? If so, any modifications required to get them to fit? Will they work with the included grilles, or is it a no-go based on how the Hertz grilles would have to attach to the speaker rim being captured behind the fairing and all? The MM1's seem like a great fit for the tour pak pods. Also, should I get the MM1's WITH the external crossovers? Or, can I rely on the signal processing of the amp to do the bulk of the frequency filtering? (I realize I'm probably splitting hairs wanting to have my cake and eat it too). Not even sure if the external crossovers that come with the MM1's would be able to fit in the pods with the speakers. My guess is "NO". Lastly, what else am I overlooking here? Seems like it's a little too easy on paper, and I'm probably leaving out some important things. Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated! I've done a lot of reading in the forum over the last couple weeks. You guys rock, and I'm glad to have the help of such a knowledgeable group of audio gurus

You won't need a flash, the Polks should fit in the tp pods. You may however have to mount the Hertz speakers inside the fairing pods. Not hard to do. The amp should sit on top of the stock amp tray with heavy duty Velcro without issue.

You will however need a couple more items. Dependent on whether you want your fade control to work will determine what all you'll need.

If you don't care about fade control, you'll want a BT355 line leveler for the front channel and 1 set of 1.5' Stinger rca cables. If you do care about fade control, you'll want 2 BT355 line levelers, BT Breakout harness and 2 sets of rca cables.

Additionally, you'll need 6' of power and ground wire, an inline fuse rated for your amp choice and HD's accessory power plug to run the remote wire to the amp.

DSM, thank you! Very helpful. I knew I was missing some stuff in there! Could you clarify when you say mounting the Hertz speakers inside the fairing pods? Like, separating the clamshells of the pods and literally putting the speaker inside? Forgive my ignorance, only had the fairing off about 3 times since the bike was new and didn't pay close enough attention to the pods configuration. Would you have any other more desirable fairing speaker suggestion? Something that will be a direct mount and can utilize the speaker manufacturer provided grills, or even use the Harley BOOM! stage one metal grills? I kinda like how those look, with the exception of the HD shield logo directly in line of fire of most coaxial tweeters...

That is what he's talking about as far as putting them inside the pods. There is a video on YouTube with an explanation.

As Marshall said, there is a YouTube vid on that process. The pod splits and you mount the speaker "in" the pod. That said, with that speaker, it may or may not need to be done. I've never tried that exact speaker. Some speakers, while playing will protrude or expand and hit the inner fairing and affect performance or damage the speaker. Some coaxials tweeter will protrude and hit the stock grill. It all depends on the particular speaker. Boom or Hogtunes grills will help if thats the case.

Trial fitment will answer those questions. Or hopefully someone that has used those particular speakers will chime in.
