Default Recommendations for LOUD Bluetooth intercom

I have a pretty severe hearing disability (working on a carrier flight deck will do that to ya). I gave up on earbuds years ago because I cannot get the volume on my phone to get past the wind noise, even with my wired Bose ANR earbuds. My wife does not ride and my bike is not set up for 2-up, so I typically ride lone wolf and crank the stereo up to listen to music through the speakers.

I am planning a road trip from Houston to Colorado with an old shipmate in the next few weeks and we are looking at Bluetooth intercoms for bike-to-bike communications. The system he has, Yideng, works well enough for him and his sweetie, but it just plain sucks for volume. Music from my phone is barely audible in Bluetooth or direct connection, phone and intercom volumes are a little better, but with the volume at max, it is still way too low for me to hear well enough to understand clearly. Even if I do wear the full face helmet I hate, I do not see this working on the road at freeway speeds.

I am having difficulty justifying spending $300+ for a Bluetooth intercom system that may not work for me and that I will rarely use. However, he is really wanting this for our trip and wants to look at other systems. Does anyone have any suggestions for a Bluetooth intercom system that has a robust volume range at a better price?

I don't know that it will be loud enough for you, but I've used Sena 10S and now have Cardo Packtalk Bold, in a full-face with earplugs in, and the Cardo does get louder. Not usable for me without earplugs though, the wind noise blocks out too much of the sound at higher speeds.

I have used a buddies Freedcon system in the past which is probably made in the same Chinese plant as your friends Yideng set up, (just labeled different and sent out a different door) but, only in a full face modular LS2 helmet. I too am pretty hard of hearing (frag grenade went off danger close to me) and found that in the helmet it was plenty loud. To a point that I had to turn it down. I never ran it in a half helmet.

~$200 for one unit...I am having a very difficult time justifying paying that much for a system I will not use very often. I will go with a CB before I spend that much.

They do look the same...I have a basic full-face helmet that I really do not like and I have been looking at modular helmets. I see that Freedcon pushes their modular helmets and they are priced reasonably. The problem with any intercom is it will not get used very often making it difficult to justify paying that much and finding out the volume is too wimpy.

I recently purchased the LS2 Valiant helmet. It is not cheap but is a different twist on a modular helmet. I have worn other modular helmets before and this is like those as in it does make some noise compared to a nice Shoei or Arai helmets. I have recently been looking for a 2way system for my GF and I on the bike and have been looking at the Freedcon myself. It is a 1/3 the price of a Sena and for the amount of use it will get, I can justify it. We tend to wear our Modular helmets on long Highway rides then when switch to our half helmets when on local rides where we wont need the 2 way system.

That's where I am with this also. With the Freedcom modular helmet, I can get a reasonably priced new modular helmet with the built in intercom for long group rides. I have a new Bell full face that I have worn maybe three times and I guess I don't appreciate the fully covered sensation. But since my friend already had this pair of Yidengs for us to use on our trip, I put one in the Bell and tried it out with disappointing but not surprising results. These are probably just fine for someone with normal hearing. Since these are not going to work for me, I wanted to go over the options with him. I like the Freedcom modular helmet option.
